Absolute carnage on the street. When my friend and I were shooting off four mortars at once , the last one to fire was upset by the force of the other explosions and tipped over. Unfortunately, it tipped over facing about an inch away from his family sitting on the lawn. Oops. No one and no shrubbery was harmed, but it was scary.
Anyone else have any close calls?

It was all too close.

Those are some amazing photos! Looks like a wild weekend. My weekend was, well, not wild unless you count that one close call. What exactly was all too close here?

It was a constant three hour assault of jingoistic nationalism. The fireworks were amazing though. Beyond excessive. The flyovers were pretty wild too. Unnecessary, but I’ll never see another stealth bomber that close.
I don’t have a picture, but we did get the anchor line hung up by another boat. They had to dive under their boat to get it unstuck. It was a complete shit show, but DC on the 4th always is.

You don’t go to DC on the 4th to get away from the excess and craziness. Flyovers sound fun.

It was definitely fun. I can't stress how over the top the fireworks were.

Back in my college days we were throwing mortars into the water/marsh because why not. It was not safe and we were quite intoxicated. Somebody fumbled one and the current took it under the dock we were on. A few seconds later and we were inside of the explosion. We stopped with our antics after that but it was pretty damn cool how it turned out. No close calls this year though.

You’d have to be pretty close to actually get injured by them, but yes his entire family was briefly inside a mortar explosion. It’s a sobering moment to realize how close of a call it was.
Fireworks exploding in the water? Didn’t know they were so water tight.
It was only taking a photo at this exact moment that you can see how even a Roman candle comes very close to lighting you up.

You can buy waterproof mortars in SC at least. They can be quite fun. Glad everyone was alright!
