It aids creativity.
There’s a Canadian Oppo that would eat his left knee for this...

My left knee might be a bit tough to chew! :P
In a way, they DIDN’T exist! The yellow one in the middle is the only prototype 126p ‘Kombi’ that Polski-FIAT ever created, but it never went into production. The prototype was based on the air-cooled version of the car and used pretty much the same flat-mounted version of the engine and rear vent placement as the
FIAT 500 Giardiniera/Autobianchi Giardiniera
(which makes sense as the 126p is based on on the classic 500):
As for the white one, the badge on the back and the wheel hubcaps show that it’s a BIS (the water-cooled engine version of the 126p with a rear hatch and the engine laid under the floor to create a rear trunk)...there was never a production OR prototype 126p BIS version in Kombi/Estate form, so that white one has to be a one-off created by its owner, presumably. The fact the owner made it makes more sense as the BIS was the only production version of the car that ever had a flat-mounted engine, so chopping and lengthening the roof would’ve relatively easy!

:D
Talking about practical versions of the 126, there was also a pickup/van version called Bombel.

Love it. Add 6 feet in length and you could camp out in that thing.
