Why is it completely surrounded by rock? H alf the point of a fireplace is being able to dry your cloths, toast your legs, burn yourself, and cook.

I always love to tell people I watched July 4 fireworks in a snowstorm in Colorado once.

That fireplace is not unlike ours in Red Lodge, we have the big iron fireplace where the whole front opens and you can put a massive log in there. They did the spray insulation in the attic and that place can be very warm inside with very cold temps outside.

It’s more of a wood furnace. There is a huge fan in the wall that blows the hot air though the house. If I leave the doors open it doesn’t heat very well.

Funny, because same deal here in Socal! Meanwhile, it was 90 as a daytime high most days in May but its barely cracked above 70 most of June. Granted “its cold, I need a fire” is because its like 65 and windy lol.

Legos and a nice fire are a good combo.

Today the high was about 56. If we have sun even at 45 deg the house warms up from solar heating.

I would prefer a free standing stove but I’m not going to remodel my basement just yet.
