So, that Sahara dust cloud thing is a real deal. Didn’t stick around long enough for an actual sunset.

It’s really bad here in Austin. They are telling us that the air is unhealthy and that we should stay inside. I’m becoming more and more convinced that the Earth has had enough of this moronic human race and is actively trying to kill us. This is a dust sunset picture I took back in 2018.

I thought I was just seeing smoke from the huge fire east of us. The air was bad coming into Phoenix. Tucson was great despite the fire in the Catalinas.

I went grocery shopping this morning and it was pretty hazy, stayed in the house since then though.

Sahara Dust is quite serious if you’ve got respiratory issues, as the sand is sharp and can damage your airways.

It’s also bad for cars and the dust shouldn’t just be wiped off as it’ll scratch the paint if not done with care. Best way is to snow foam and then rinse without touching.

Sahara Dust regularly makes it to the U.S. as it's fine and carried in the gulfstream across.

I can remember conversing with someone on here a few years ago when I mentioned Sahara Dust, they were surprised we got it here in the U.K., then I mentioned it often reached the U.S.

Yeah, it’s an annual thing for us.

South Georgia coast here. So much dust we can’t see across the marsh, mile or so. Can’t see the boats anchored in the river. Looks like a heavy fog but dry and dusty. No real smell like when it’s smoky but my mouth tastes funny . I have asthma and it’s playing hell with my breathing. Staying  quiet today and doing sit-down chores. No, I’m not wearing a mask at home alone.

Fortunately, with the recent rain, it appears our twice weekly dose of dusting has abated for now. The real tell for us will be the coming Summer...

Could be worse, 23rd February 2020, Tenerife, Spain (granted, way closer to the Sahara than the U.S.).

Take care, Sahara sand inside the Sahara Dust is fine and sharp, though you'll get it somewhat less than us it can still do damage to airways, especially bad for if you have respiratory issues.

Wow. That looks like one of the crazy dust storms in West Texas, except West Texas uses its own dirt.
