2006. 58k miles. Few scuffs, dings, and scratches.

But a lot of car for £650 (~USD 805)

It has a strange feature where it sounds the horn when I pop the bonnet/hood or open the boot. Will have to investigate the alarm system. I accept help on this one.

MOT (annual inspection) in 30/Nov, so hopefully it’ll run till then.

The plan is to service it, do the minimum needed to be safe and not get stranded with the family.

Bangernomics here we go.

Wow been a while since I haven’t seen one of those over here.

They have all been taken by rust

Wow I NEVER see 6 wagons anymore. Even the regular V6 Mazda Mazda6s are almost all gone from catastrophic engine failure like my brothers old one. Such wonderful cars to drive though. 58k miles isn't much either and holy crap you got this for under a grand USD! Good deal.

Yep, bought it for covering a few months before I can go after what I really want...If it lives untill the next inspections, it’ll still be cheap motoring.

Fun fact the Mazda’s of that era used Ford AC vents dispute their ability to not produce Ford levels of cooling from the AC system. So this Mazda6 is basically a mustang.

Manual wagon with a trailer hitch! That’s a big win in my book

But the taillights didn’t aged well...

If you’re fast enough you can get some good used car deals. Lost a MK5 1.9 TDI Golf, one owner, for £900/USD1100 because I couldn’t get out of the house immediately.

I’d be surprised if there are any Japanese cars with under 60k miles available in the US for under $1k. Your new car prices may be high, but I’m jealous of how cheap your used cars are over there.

awesome.  I really liked my 05 6 wagon manual.  Not a perfect car by a long shot, but I miss it still!

Nice.

Still see quite a few on the roads in the north of England.

They are fine it’s just because everyone needed to purchase cheap altezza-like replacements for everything for awhile.

One of my favorite V6 engines of all time (though I’d prefer it in a manual S-type) . Not a huge fan of working on it in a transverse configuration like that, though. Spark plugs require taking off the whole intake manifold which involves wrestling with the ridiculous EGR setup. Heater hoses are just straight up impossible without a cutoff wheel.

Do me a favor and take a picture of one of the constant-compression hose clamps on that thing. I have a hard time finding good photos of those awful bastards.

Wear gloves if you ever do anything involving the front core support; the unsealed composite one-piece unit sheds and you’ll be itching from fiberglass for weeks.
Be extra careful if you have to remove the battery. It’s directly adjacent to a big plastic coolant line spaghetti monster that WILL crack and eject coolant everywhere if you bump it.

The doors are an absolute joy to work on. Go take a door panel off and have a look. It’s an incredibly cool design.

The suspension is stupid cheap and easy to refresh.

Clutch job requires dropping the cradle off the bottom of the car. There are other ways to do it but it’ll take 2x as long and not save any effort.

For a moment I thought those are Lexus IS wheels until I saw another pic of them in a Wiki page .
