I was a bit better prepared for this weekend’s flyover. I had the 55-300mm lens already mounted up and ready to take some pictures! Unfortunately, I discovered a little too late that something needed to be dusted. Ah, well. Enjoy the pictures.

something needed to be dusted.
That’s what Photoshop is for. Next, slow down the shutter and get some prop blur.

I ’ll have to learn how to take this camera off of AUTO first!

See if it has a shutter priority mode. That’s where you set the shutter speed and the camera handles everything else. Start around 1/125 and go up or down from there.

The wife provisionally approved that field trip for us to go fly one of these.

I mentioned to my wife going to talk to the guys who fly them over my house (I know where their hangar is located) and the response wasn’t so positive. That’s ok. I can still fly something else while you take a ride in gyrocopter. If I have a passenger with a good camera , we might be able to do some formation flying and get some air-to-air photos!

What would you fly that would be safe to fly in formation with a gyrocopter piloted by a novice?

If we leave off the “piloted by a novice” part, the MTO Sport they fly cruises at 90 kts and the light-sport they offer has a stall speed of 83 kts. If they push the MTO up to 95, that’s comfortably within the flight envelop of the plane.
No problem!
I’ll just make sure we’re using a big lens and have plenty of distance between us. :)

You’re ignoring a huge elephant in the room, but sure, I’m game.

Ah, I get it. No worries! This is what they fly:

I like the Airwolf-looking helmets. They should attach one of those fake gatling gun prosthetics to the nose to go with them .
