I have spent 10-15 hours a day for the last week in a tractor seat.
First cut of hay is almost done. Nearly 200 4x4 round bales down.
T he view from the office is nice at least...
the next two days I’m wrapping though... :p I’ll end up doing about 125 stories of stair climbing just getting in and out of the tractor to run the wrapper.

That is a nice view!
Did you ever get your “new” Deere baler up and running?

Any resolution with the ba ler? Seems like you must have something?

That's what she said

My ass is sore but for different reasons.
The suspension on my Cub is slightly too firm.

The electrics have been resolved, and it got a new control box. It’s usable right now, we’re still talking about the chain wear on the tension arm, missing crop deflector and unevenly stretched belts... They said they’re willing to take it back to the shop between cuts, but they were only willing to get it “working” on an emergency basis. I feel better, but I’m not done yelling at them. They say they took the PO’s word on it’s condition and I said the last time I traded in a car that was worth less than half what I this baler was the dealer made we wait 2 hours and we had to argue about what they’d give me for it based on their itemised list, and maybe they should be more thorough next time and it's not my fault, so I shouldn't be paying for it. They mumbled something and said the thing about the shop between cuts again... So, like I said, that's something.

Can you harangue them via Yelp?

Suspension? I mean the Zetor's seat is pretty springy... But even when it was new the little Ford only had about 2 inches of seat suspension travel, and that spring is mostly played out these days... As is the muffler as of today. Kinda sounds badass actually... Real boomy and triple-y, like a Triumph with loud pipes that never revs above 2300rpm...

How is the sound level? I have always worn ear plugs but still have a little tinnitus. I use earplugs and muffs now when doing the lawn.

It’s Vermont. (no one uses Yelp here...)

Better than nothing I guess, but hopefully they’ll make it right for you eventually.

The Zetor’s not too bad with everything closed up and AC on, but I still wear earplugs. Makes it easier to understand the radio with the high-frequency noise filtered out. It’s hardly a critical music listening chamber, and frankly the patio speakers I have bolted into the little Ford’s cab soun d better than the Blaupunkt system in the Zetor.

I hope so.

I hope you got as good a laugh out of that as I did.

What exactly are you baling for hay?
No way I could handle throwing bales around anymore. I mean being unconditioned for the physical duress. City living is not for me.

Round bales. There is no throwing. I let the tractors do my heavy lifting whenever possible. We’re bal ing whatever grass grows on the hay field. No fancy alfalfa or intensional grass crops, just what thrives. This is the Northeast after all.

It genuinely feels peppier with the blown out muffler (though there’s a good chance that’s psychosomatic) but no rooster- tail dirt burnouts or donuts (except in mud or snow).

Be happy it's not square bales.

Maybe too late for this batch, but ROHO makes an air cell cushion for old guys rising their Harleys. I had one for my bike. It’s called Airhawk.

Whaddya mean? There’s all kinds of reviews from skiers & leaf peepers driving through...

We're smarter than that.

shhhh, Mrs. BoostAddict becomes slightly more convinced a newer small tractor - say one with AC in the cab and a modern suspension seat- might be a good expenditure of money every time she spends a half-day running the rake in the little Ford. Then again, that little Japanese-built Ford is one of the most fuel efficient, reliable, and handy mid-size compact tractors ever made.
