I’ve seen more attractive wraps though.

Could they not afford a newer benchmark car? I think a pista would match what GM is trying to achieve with their track oriented mid engine sports. If not that, at least an F8! Keep it as close to the same model year as possible. Turbos, sure, but don’t benchmark your bleeding edge design against a car that came out 10 years ago.

P ics mean nothing, so I’m waiting to see one in person...but damn, it looks like that intake and back end get bigger and bigger every time I see a new picture.

It looks better with the camo than without...

In their defense, the 45 8 is the last naturally engined, flat plane V8 mid engined supercar that was sold. I’m sure its presence isn’t just as a mere performance benchmark.

Maybe that’s all GM could afford? I don’t mean to be glib but if GM isn’t paying for the competition’s latest tech directly from them, they can’t in turn pay an owner willing to risk their standing with the PCCA/FOC/FCA/???   and future new model acquisitions with the factory, right?

GM has a long history of benchmarking their  new models against competitors that are 1-2 generations older.

I honestly do not know anything about benchmarking, but I figured they would at least do a current model

Maybe it was a cost thing, maybe it was a driving experience thing. If the Z can feel like a 458, that is a very good thing for 100k. I wouldn't think too much about customers losing their standings. 3rd party dealers have very deep networks of new limited production owners looking to make some money

Getting a new Ferrari is a complicated rich man’s game, with the best of the best cars ONLY going to approved fans diehard loyal to the brand; the kinda folks who would be very unwilling to let your local friendly neighborhood car company borrow one for benchmarking their new product against.

The same company that played with the odometers on the LaFerrari and threatened owners and shops alike into silence about it would totally stonewall GM out of acquiring a benchmark car.

There are plenty of like new, current, even limited production, cars on the “pre owned” market. Some even already at 3rd party dealers or private sellers. Send the R&D VP out with a check to buy the car, then register it as a GM car on the back end. I’m not saying corporate America could make that happen, but they could have easily gotten a 488, a special, maybe a pista, and possibly even an F8 if they tried. I’m sure they are looking at the driving experience of the NA v8, but it’s easy to make at gym benchmarking their highest tech car against something that is 10 years old. I’m also  100% a Ferrari fanboi thru and thru, so part of it is me poking fun at gm, hoping their new great thing is as good as a 10 year old Ferrari. Lol

Good to know, especially since I could only afford the Hot Wheels versions of these cars.

Maybe the camo clad ‘Vette rolls with these babes so she can fly under the radar. I glance at the photos and don’t even notice it.

There are plenty of like new, current, even limited production, cars on the “pre owned” market.

That is not the problem. The problem is that Ferrari, as an organization, has enough power to convince entire franchises to break federal law and tamper with cars, and owners - the richest and most powerful among us - were compelled to go along. This means they exert extraordinary control over who can get what, where their product is going to go and what can be done with it after purchase .

Jalopnik a while back had an article profiling someone who’s entire purpose at Ferrari was to tell certain people they couldn’t get one no matter what. The C8 exists now, and that special editions of the vette happen are common knowledge; ‘don’t sell to anyone who’s tax return says ‘General Motors’ on it’ is a couple of phone calls away, with collectors and private resellers (nearly all of whom brought their ferraris new) must weight the prospect of never being able to buy a new Ferrari again against selling a certain someone a benchmark car. It’s not reasonable to believe a car company can’t afford a new supercar since building any car is a 9 figure yearly commitment minimum, so why didn’t GM get a new Ferrari to bench the z06? The answer is Ferrari doesn’t want them have one and resellers both corporate and private are playing along.
