‘Murica!!
Keep it excellent, my friends.
Hopefully the folks convening in my city this weekend (on both sides of the political spectrum
) can keep it mostly civil as well, but I’m not willing to bet on it... Glad I’ll be getting out of town, honestly. Any predictions for how it will go in Tulsa?
Anyone have recommendations for things to do/see around Taos & Angelfire?

Taos itself is pretty cool to spend some time, art galleries and sh&t stores. There are some interesting hot spring water bath not too far ... with weird-@ss looking houses/compound in the desert in between. Straight roads with no turns for miles and miles ... You can also ride the lifts at the ski valley or do some mountain bikin’ ...

I agree Oppo is definitely an awesome place! In a time where I find myself spending almost zero time on FB due to how radical everyone is becoming Oppo has been an awesome refuge and community for us all .
While we all (myself included) get a bit hot headed from time to time I think we’d make Bill and Ted proud.

WHY IS THE DEMOCRATIC CAR POSITIONED IN FRONT OF THE REPUBLICAN CAR!? AND WHY IS ONLY A WHITE CAR FEATURED ASWELL?

Seriously, there is now way I could have the discussions I have here on Fb without them devolving into a shouting match, or people posting fake news stories, or comparing someone to Hitler.

Perhaps just the ones that state their personal preference. That's one thing I'll never do here but I'll participate in debates with some pretense of suspending bias. Once it starts getting to comparing parties I'm out.

Thanks for the hot springs tip.
Hopefully some of the shops are open. I’m afraid most will be closed, but we’ll see, I guess. We’ll be doing a lot of hiking, my son will go mountain biking with his cousins, maybe we’ll find some horse to ride.

As someone who is radically centrist and an INFJ personality (which seeks harmony), you guys make me out to be some kind of american underpants wearing, gun totin’, right wing extremist. Heck, I’ve been attacked for NOT having an opinion.

im a non american...i mostly stay out of your shit coz i have nothing usefull to add
i know wich side i prefer.... but ultimately my opinion is meaningless...and most of the time i manage to keep it to meself

Oh god is it this weekend?
I think it’ll be fine unless the protesters (and I assume there will be protesters) get hassled to a degree that shit gets weird. As long as protesters and TPD keep a cool head (which, so far, seems to have been the case) and the attendees don’t go too far (TBD) it’ll be ok. I suspect if there is in incident it’ll be an attendee harassing a protester, who then responds, which then provokes a police response, and it goes downhill from there.
Also presumably 19,000 people are about to have known exposure to COVID-19.

Also yes. Oppo is currently the only “social network” I’m allowing myself to be on. I’ve got Twitter and Facebook blocked locally because I can’t stop myself from checking them and yet they’re really harshing my calm.
The downside of Oppo being so friendly, if you want to call it a downside, is on the semi- rare occasion a comment is... less than excellent, it really gets to me. Also I have had to delete a couple spicier takes for the sake of community harmony.

I value outsider’s opinions but of course all your info is coming from a biased source. All my inf o is coming from a biased so ur ce too but I try to get both biases. I won't say "vote for Pedro" but I will say "Pedro won't be very good at this but he will address the other issue with competence."

I am definitely going to avoid downtown. Tulsa has been pretty civil, just afraid of outside agents causing ruckus.

I wish we could just hit reset on the current crop of politicians and people’s delicate sensibilities. Not a great year to be voting for the first time.

Out here in Oregon one of our rural counties just had over 100 confirmed COVID cases in one day all from a single church event where they weren’t following social distancing practices.
Can pretty much assume a similar outcome, just at a much larger scale with the rally. Would bet most people won’t be wearing masks, and very closely packed indoors. Funny they’re making people sign waivers to not sue the campaign if they come down with the disease. W hat if someone who lives with them comes down with it - they never signed any waiver.
Just a shitshow all around with Juneteenth, the current race related unrest, etc. and with COVID on top of it. As far as Trump is concerned it’s a perfect way to get his base pumped up even more. Given that he doesn’t even try expanding his base, of course he doesn’t even care.

A full on package full of stroopwafels
alone would be my jam. I don’t actually drink, but I do love stroopwafels.
I don’t get offended by people’s views, provided they aren’t a dick about it. I had a hypothetical/non-hypothetical
conversation with a coworker the other day. His building rule is “one household per elevator ride”. Someone go into his elevator with him and his girlfriend, and they shouted the person (who had been waiting for several minutes)
out of the elevator.
My feelings on the mask thing are a lot like my political views. If it bothers you that I’m not wearing the mask , then I wear the mask. If it bothers you that I’m wearing the mask, then I probably won’t wear the mask. If no one is around, I’ll default to determining my own level of social comfort. I tend to think the masks are 10% science and 90% panic. Should you wear a mask in a store? Probably. Should you be required to wear a mask when hiking? Absolutely not. Yet humans suck at nuance and we’ve spent the last 20 years beating any kind of critical thinking out of the education system in pursuit of some kind of American version of European education. Jeez, that was a rant. 4th rant in like 2 days. WTF.

Before engaging in meaningful political discussion, the personal philosophy of the participants regarding what they think the functions and overall goals of society should be, is essential.
Does the individual exist to serve the community? Does the community exist to serve the individual? What is the Social Contract and how does one effectively opt-out? What is a human right? What is a privilege? What is property and what can be property, and to whom can this property belong? What is consent, and what is coercion? What is justice?
These are all basic questions that a lot of very outspoken people don’t bother to ask themselves before picking a side and just dutifully toeing the party line.
More importantly than that, political decisions and laws don’t exist in a vacuum, there are always unintended consequences of legislation, no matter how innocuous it seems.

Thanks. I just followed the rules, shared some interesting info, and “set the table” for discussion. I really don’t have a dog in this hunt, so that probably helps.

I’ve been referring to them as his “ disciples” in conversations with my brothers. These are the people who would follow him even if he shot someone in the middle of 5th Ave., like he said.

The people in this article are clearly unhinged... Go far enough to the left and you will find people similarly disconnected from reality.

I think that’s the key. From what I see, choosing your words in the body of the post sets the tone for what kind of comments it attracts.

I liked Taos very much, but Mrs. Vandura not so much. And it gets freeze-your-cookies-off cold there in winter.

Sure, but the ones on the left don’t have the president of the U.S. feeding off their delusions and encouraging them to revel in it. That’s the really dangerous part.

shoot me an adress and ill ship over some nice stroop wafels lol
anyhoo... over here we only do masks if you want to use public transport....for some reason thats the rule we came up with
soooo now everyone has fancy designer face cloths ordered from etsy so they can look snazzy on the bus
![]() 06/19/2020 at 01:12 |

Hahaha, I was mainly joking. If you get me for secret senna, just remember that.
That sounds like a good rule. San Francisco’s rule is that you must wear one if you’re in public and within 30 ft of another human. They must have mistook this virus for one of the many experiments that the military has carried out on the city.
I have a lot of coworkers that make fancy designer masks and give them away. I have a fancier n95 style running mask that people use in polluted cities. I figured it would come in handy if the wildfires return here.

True - I shouldn’t shortchange that. Anywhere in NM where there’s good skiing (Taos, ABQ, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft) turns into great mountain biking during the hot months. Definitely short sighted of me to not think of that.

I just don’t get their obsession with “the gay agenda” and pedophilia . It seems to be a central tenet of their belief system.
