Went to the office today and brought home my big monitors as I will be working from home for the foreseeable future. I’ll still have a desk in the office and maybe I’ll get there a couple times a month or something.

My girlfriend just picked up her dual monitor setup for work. Our dining table is a mess now. No space for this stuff.

I have my computer stuff from home so that it’s kind of pointless for me to go to work for anything other than bench work or mouse colony stuff. My desk in the office is bare. All my work is at home.

I got a new one mailed to me a week ago. We're WFH too for a while, not allowed in the office yet.

Nice, I’ve contemplated going into the office to pickup my 27" monitor to pair it with the matched size d already at home but that seems like a bit much.

If I were picking a dream setup,   I’d really like an ultrawide 49" to avoid dual screen bezel but that’s probably overkill .

Kinja'd!!!

Also , good thing you label your coffee mug, wouldn’t want to mix that up with a pee cup during those long conference calls  without a bathroom break.

My home desk is too small for my 27" monitors from work so I’ve been using twin 24s. They set up higher as my home desk has two levels so it’s not too bad. I go in to the office once a week and the traffic has become noticeably worse lately. I really dread the commuting days now.

There really is no reason for me to go in to the office now and if I’m being honest there probably wasn’t any reason before. I don’t work directly with anyone in the office or even in this state. Most of my team is over a thousand miles away from me.

I had a smaller dell on my desk at home and brought it in to trade for this matching pair of larger monitors. They let us in the office but everyone is encouraged to not do so.

Probably the best argument for an office in that situation is to keep work and home life well apart. Some folks can do it in their minds, some need the physical separation. Another reason:   I have a colleague with 5 young kids. He comes to his office to get peace and quiet to work.

My office is starting to reopen. They have put in place protocol for walking anywhere that is not your desk. Fortunately, they are bringing us back in groups, so they can get the first group accustomed to the new rules before integrating the next group in with the first.

I’d rather just continue working from home.

I’m not 100% sure how sustainable it is going to be for me but 3 months in and it seems to be going well. I’ll always have that desk at the office. Maybe I’ll slip the script and do one day in the office and four at home. Before it was one day at home and four in the office.

There have always been a small amount of critical staff in our building, but like 100 out of the usual 1200. In July we’re phasing in another like 20 that will be needed to make other changes to the facility.

The rest of us will be phased in very slowly and they said most will be home for several more months at least.

I’d rather stay home permanently too and only go in when I need something.

That’s good, we have to deal with ordering new equipment and the shortages entailed with it so I’m stuck with one 22 monitor attached to my laptop.

I’m thinking of doing similar, but I need a permanent setup.  I also would need more equipment at work. I’m considering an iPad Pro to allow me to toggle back and forth better, but I’m not sure yet if that will fit the bill.

Our office is ramping up for a big project that is coming online in the next few months. It’s big enough that they’re worried about having enough space. I’m hoping that they decide my services are best rendered from home so they can use my desk space for someone who needs to be there.

We had an all hands meeting early this week to talk about this (and other stuff). They mentioned things like major upgrades to air handlers for filtration as well as needing to figure out conference rooms.

Once you take in social distancing guidelines most conference rooms are unusable - they did an assessment building wide and most previously sized for 10 actual ly accommodate 2 now.  Same thing with the cafeteria and other common spaces...

My original work from home situation was a single 12" laptop screen. That lasted for about 20 seconds. I'm currently running two repurposed 32" LCD TVs. I'm going to hate going back to my smaller 19" monitors in the office.

While not ideal that’s not a terrible setup. Better than just a laptop anyways. Gotta break into the office and bring your office stuff home.

Our big conference room now has a max capacity of four - except the two people farthest from the door are trapped in the room until the two nearest the door leave. :)

Our break room is at capacity with three people and only two can use the counter space at once. The printer/supplies room is down to one person at a time.

At least our cubicles have tall walls, making the required minimum distance feasible. In other offices they installed short walls. Now they have to buy wall extensions to increase the cubicle height so people can sit at their desks without having to wear a mask. Unfortunately, we are required to wear a mask any time we aren’t at our desks.

It definitely is better than nothing   but I was used to a standing desk and a pair of 27 monitor.

I would still rather stay home than go back into the office, it’s definitely required some adjustment to how I work though.  First world problems though...

Most of our cubicles are the 5' tall ones so not sure where they fall. We had a few areas that had adjusted to a more open style bullpen type area and that’ll have to be undone though.

Right now everyone is required to wear a mask when moving about and every group has their own assigned elevators to use and lunch times so there is as little cross group interaction as possible.

I don't have great resolution, but it still helps since my eyesight sucks. 1024x768 for the one, and 1440x1080 for the other.

Three Dells for me, 2x24" and one 30" (which really needs to be replaced). None of them are from work though, they buy shitty monitors. It took me over a year of begging just to get them to issue me a pair of 21.5" 1080p screens , they had standardized on crappy 19" 900p screens, and didn’t want to get me anything better because then everyone would want them. They didn’t even buy the 1080p screens, they were surplus from a company we bought out. In any event, I abandoned all their shitty monitors when I went remote.

Boy that’s a lot of monitor space. I’m not sure I could really make use of a 30" monitor. What are you doing with all that real estate ?

Depends on what I’m doing. Usually I have it split into four vertical windows (the 24"ers are in portrait). So I might have email/chat up on one, an IDE on another, maybe some documentation on another, and then maybe some console windows or a browser on the last one. Or sub in a Chrome developer tools window. For gaming, I usually have the game on the main screen, and then can have the sides for email/chat/etc.

Or as this picture from last summer shows, maybe just a lot of Oppo?

Yeah, I have a couple work laptops, but a lot of what I do is cloud-based, so I can work on it wherever and it’s easier to just work on my personal box than to remote into the laptops, and certainly nicer to have all this screen real estate (though my work Macbook’s high-res screen isn’t terrible to work on either).

Late to the party...

Back in March, I was absolutely certain that my company would have me working from home. I got prepared by grabbing a spare dock and power supply for my laptop, and immediately set up a 24" monitor on the desk in a spare bedroom . It would almost mimic my office setup, except it would be missing a second 24" screen.

Instead, my office sent everyone else home but our department, then spread us out in the building. I haven’t worked from home once during this mess...been out in it every day.

My gf’s been using my setup to work from home instead. She wants desperately to be back out (she’s a repair rep for an insurance company, normally spends 90% of her time in body shops), but is stuck until the end of next month.

I’ll most likely be sent back to my own desk next month.

Not entirely certain , but I’m pretty sure they wanted us to be easily accessible to troubleshoot people connecting via VPN. I mean...we could still do that remotely, but whatever.

Our business was considered essential in most states, but the general-office stuff could mostly be done remotely. We still had to be able to support remote locations as well as internal personnel.  Portions of my company chugged right on through the past couple of months as if nothing happened.  Others got completely shut down for several weeks.

They just told us company travel was allowed again this week. I found that interesting, as I and numerous others spent the past 2 weeks on the road.
