I went a couple of years ago and had a lot more fun than I anticipated. I stayed at a friends house, avoided all of the truly wild locations and apart from a few boneheaded riders and.... interesting, people it was a fun and relaxing trip. I’m not eager to go back (been there, done that, close enough that I can plan a trip to ride in the Black Hills whenever), but I wouldn’t mind going again. This year though, I’m staying far, far away and planning on a four day bike camping trip around northern MN with a buddy of mine.
Curious to see what the turnout this year is though, the 80th is a big anniversary , and while the stereotypical Sturgis attendee is not likely to care about COVID, with normal attendance numbers of 500,000+ there’s bound to be a large portion who aren’t willing to take the risk.

Does this make this the only thing not cancelled in 2020? And I don’t mean motorcycle rallies, or events in South Dakota, I mean out of everything that happens.

This is one of those things that makes me want to throw a tantrum and yell “NOT FAIR.”
I’ve had much smaller events cancelled through August (so far) , and yet stuff like this is still going on.

It’s going to be really interesting to see the case count after this.

Close the borders around South Dakota

Same, I had to miss my annual Canada fishing trip this year because the border was closed. I mean, I understand and support the decision but it still really sucked and was super depressing having to miss my favorite week of the year.

The virus is more deadly to people that are overweight, have heart issues, smoke, or have diabeetus.
In other words, 3 months after the rally HD will go bankrupt because they won’t have enough customers left.

So far it seems like it. A couple of things have been postponed until later dates, or happening with limited attendance, but this is really the first I’ve heard of an event that’s essentially business as usual.
Granted, it’s not like it was going to be stopped anyway, the City of Sturgis doesn’t own this event and people will show up regardless. About the only way this was going to be stopped was if the governor puts a halt to it, and so far she has only been pushing guidelines and recommendations , no actual orders. This was only decided yesterday or today, so we’ll see if she steps in, I don’t think she will.

Could be a large number of Harley's on the market later this year then?

The Gambler 500 has started having events again, starting with Detroit last weekend.
T
here have been some major changes. Only small teams, spread out camping, masks, limited amount of entrants, and anything each respective state recommends.

I drove through it by accident once. There really are that many bikes.

Just noticed Ralph Stanley II is apparently still planning to have his music festival in August, southern Virginia, so no sure how likely that is to happen.

Since most riders are from out of state and symptoms take 1-2 weeks to manifest it’ll probably wind up on the stats of
their home states, not SD.

This is a gathering of motorcycle riders, they take a greater risk every time they swing a leg over their bikes than the actual risk of death from covid-19 at the moment. Very, very few attendees will likely be dissuaded from going.
