In the Bronco article:
“ LOL I’ve spent $200K+ on new vehicles since 2015, $150K of that on brand new manual vehicles. Don’t confuse me with some Jalopnik poster who waits to buy everything used.”
“ I’m not interested in a 4 cylinder. I’m not interested in an automatic. Jeep already offers what I want to buy, if Ford doesn’t, then I won’t buy one. It’s just as simple as that.”

And, with three-or-four active readers, TTAC remains a powerful force in automotive nuevo journalism...
Besides, unless he bought 8 of same car, I think it’s mathematically impossible to spend that amount on “new, manual cars” during that period of time.

Hey, TTAC. I forgot about them.

I clicked on a picture and it was from their story, then I started reading comments . Then I was like, yeah it’s true, we do that... I buy cars with 40k miles on them haha. I like Murilee, I forgot he went there, it’s been a long time since he was a Jalop but he’s cool. I emailed with him about a lot full of Citroen in Colorado I saw when I was there visiting someone.

Comment reads like what a 15yo just about to get his drivers license writes as a flex.
If you have that much money to dick about with vehicles then you’d know to just get a shop to throw whatever engine/transmission you want in your Bronco or buy the Jeep. Ford doesn’t give a shit about some drop in the ocean rando that might buy their vehicle, hell sometimes they don’t about
the actual owners either.

TTAC has some of the very best perma-banned 13 year olds from Jalopnik’s front page.
Bu t yes, I do see the value in used vehicles.

A few Oppos buy new to supply the others with used cars. Team player here.

They are oddly obsessed with us, especially baruth. He was a total dick here in Oppo once, IIRC.

The Baruth’s showed up to one of our AutoX events in the horrible Turfway parking lot about 4 years ago. They all left when it started raining.

The Drive hates Jaolpnik too.
Big flex w/$200k of depreciating assets in 5yrs lol.
Sounds like fake internet commenter should just buy the Jeep since
they’re fine with a Jeep or
just hire a shop to make a Bronco
whatever he wants.

Everyone does. When popular media is espousing the idea buying a new car is the worst financial decision someone below a certain age could make right now it isn’t rocket appliance.

I got banned from TTAC. It was because they thought I made a second account, but I needed to be banned (for the sake of everyone).
I often forget I commented there.

Sure would be nice to be able to spend 200k on new cars.
My mom would still like a wrangler-esque vehicle for ~26k new. She doesn't need offroad chops, she just wants a fun car.

The Truth About Cars is that they are generally expensive, compromised in their design and packaging, have often insane service costs and their value depreciates way too quickly. And that's only the website's content...

“Don’t confuse me with some Jalopnik poster who waits to buy everything used.”
The writer thinks that this is an insult? It is not.

That’s the beauty of new vehicles, you don’t need to have that much money with $0 down and 20% financing. And adding up the MSPR of the vehicles they “bought” doesn’t mean they spent that amount either. I don’t think custom shops offer that kind of financing or take trade-ins and roll them into the new loan.

I only remember they kept running series about car maker deathwatches. Only till now I realize all they write is clickbait.

It makes sense to let that first owner take the depreciation hit on lightly used but expensive when new cars. Heck, my Jag was six figures new. I bought it when it was 2/3 years old and had 12k miles on it - and it was a heckuva lot less than six figures.
Heck, look at the prices for new McLarens and then check out prices for a 2 year old McLaren with 4k miles. Or Aston Martin. Etc. Sure, maybe it is different if you are buying a Ferrari or Lambo that you know is eventually going to hit the bottom of the depreciation curve and then likely will start to rise. But how many people really have that money sitting around to spend on a brand new car?
![]() 06/16/2020 at 09:20 |

Or one Aston Martin Vantage AMR.

Aston Martin Vantage AMR =)
Or better, a 991.2 GT3.

Correct. If that’s the case t
hen this person
hasn’t “spent” +$200K on vehicles and it’s just a
BS flex. I’d think it’s just a troll tbh based on
the language and sentence
formatting.
Part of me is just venting at the people that whine and complain about a model about to be released. Typically it’s people who want to lease or having this aversion to hot rodding but want that 50 more horsepower or the better this and that. If you even mention a warranty compliant tune and the like they go to the too much money or scary reliability excuse and how it should just come like that.
The people that have money don’t whine
, they’ll make the car their own, warranty
or not.

I used to read TTAC almost daily. I actually thought their reviews were really good. Hell, I was a fan of both Baruth brothers for a bit...
But, then the bullshit about ownership started, and it was revealed that the Baruths are actual shitheads (Jack’s continuous drivel about the schtuping of soccer moms and the talk of all his luxury bullshit got old quick), and the pettiness over former writers that parlayed working for TTAC into work in one of the big magazines or websites...
I’m just here for the cars, man!
I still occassionally watch Alex on Autos though.

He was a total dick here in Oppo once, IIRC.
Fixed that for ya. I followed the Baruths’ blog for a while just out of morbid curiosity. They’re alt-right lunatics who think they’re God’s gift to mankind. Very odd people

He got in an argument here with a prominent poster (at the time), then doxxed him because he didn’t think it ok that we knew he was Jack baruth but the Oppo was posting anonymously . WTF

I vaguely recall something like that. But I think he’s done that multiple times. I remember him threatening to go to people’s houses and beat them up too

This is something I don’t get about the overcompensating man crowd: since when did it become a bad thing to be financially responsible? Sure, OEMs don’t build for used buyers, and I have appreciated being the only idiot to hoon t
he Lancer. Sometimes buying new is good! But what’s with the snobbery towards buying used? I’ve seen this come up from a few Serious Automotive Men lately and it baffles my mind.
Why would you spend more money if you don’t have to? If what you want or something close to it is available used, why wouldn’t you let someone else take the depreciation hit? And for Pete’s sake, there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying what you can afford.
There’s a word for people who spend extra money just to say they’ve spent extra money, especially if it causes them to push the limits of their means: douchebags. Don’t be a douchebag.

If we believe he isn’t a 16 year old haha. I don’t get it, I always buy good cars with 40k miles . My dad is pretty well off, he was a land lawyer/ VP for Phil Anschutz and I think he has only bought two trucks new back in the 80's. E ven then I remember he started a bidding war between several dealers . Now he buys F250s from the government auction every two years and sells them for about what he paid for them.

I did put a pristine loaded 2014 Mazda 3 sedan back in the market last year. I'm doing my best.

I’ve seen old dudes go this route, though, which I REALLY don’t get. Is it to be a contrarian? Lord over millennials? Own the libs? Car-douche-a-virus? I guess they’re playing themselves by lighting their own money on fire for no rational reason, so whatever. At that age, being THAT insecure is just sad, and they should know better.

There are a lot of strange egos out there, between the military and the union I’m in now I have seen a wide variety! I’m from Hawaii and some of the cultures in the mainland are pretty new to me, I am confused a lot.
