So much green! We have entered the browner part of the year now so the hills are no longer alive with color. Still pretty but certainly a stark contrast from two months ago.

Those are mostly all junipers and ponderosa pines so they’re always green. We are under an extreme fire risk right now. On top of the canyons it’s all dry, brown grass with junipers sprinkled about.

Took me five hours to get home on account of a wildfire that shut down the highway. Ended up touring all of central Arizona just to make it back to Phoenix. Beautiful drive, but exhausting.

Arizona has the largest contingent Ponderosa pine forest in the world, so despite being known for our deserts, there’s always lots of green to go around.

That’s actually sick. Our campsites are rarely so view heavy. Keeping in mind that we have to camp where the state says we can.

Was also -2 degrees which was a bit fucked for camping.

Yeah, this area is really cool. It’s sandwiched in between to Wilderness areas. The edge of this canyon begins the Wilderness area, so you only walk in. I’ve backpacked into it a few times. The trail cuts straight down into the canyon.

I think the options would be better for walk ins, though I’ve been to one or two walk ins where that wasn’t the case. I’m just moving into hiking proper, so walk ins will be big in the next few months.

Northern Arizona between Payson and Flagstaff right in between the Clear Creek and Fossil Creek wilderness areas.
