Okay, so it barely counts as a modification. But on the Jaaaaaaag, the 12V outlet and two USB ports are in the back of the inside of the center console. Stupid placement in my opinion, but whatever.

And directly under the center stack is a nice little cubby hole that perfectly holds a phone...unless you want to have the phone plugged in to charge.

So I picked up a thin Qi wireless charger, dug through the garage for some scrap ABS plastic and adhesive-backed neoprene, then got to work with my D remel and Xacto knife.

It might not be beautiful, but it works. Now I can easily charge my personal phone or work phone any time I’m in the car without having to leave multiple cords dangling about. I’ll probably make another one in the coming days to refine the design a little bit, but I’m overall satisfied with the 15 minutes of effort i gave it.

On second thought, maybe I’ll wait until it isn’t abysmally hot outside...

That looks really good. What happens if you take a turn too fast?

In the 2020 XE they put wireless charging. And it works really well!. You could pop that panel off and put it underneath, and be total stealth and maybe hard wire.

Medium Panda? Does it also have a Sad Panda feature? A friend wants to know.

How do you find the dial gearstick? Just wondering as I’m sort of considering a XF as my next car (in like two years) and the engine options for the manual (which I’ve driven and liked) is pretty much the D160 four pot turbo diesel, so I would consider a slightly more powerful one but I’m still not sold on the dial stick, it’s the pretty much the only JLR thing I really don’t like.

Honestly, I have no problems with it other than when I’ve been driving the Corvette for a few consecutive days, then jump back in the XE. But that’s more about the fact that this Jaguar is the first automatic car I’ve owned in over a decade.

With all that said, I do actually really like the 8-speed ZF unit that JLR uses (as far as automatic transmissions go, that is). It never struggles to find the right gear, and using the paddle shifters (or even letting it do its own thing) results in just as quick and as smooth of gear changes as you could hope for.

No Sad Panda. But my NAS Plex server is called Slightly Large Panda, so it seemed to be a fitting title when I renamed my phone for BT connections .

Hmm, intriguing ideas. I’ll have to figure out how the panel is attached. Maybe by a spare one to fiddle with because I tend to break things.

During my “testing” phase, I was able to dislodge the phone once by accelerating hard on a cloverleaf on-ramp. The phone never actually left the cubby hole, but it did shift enough to stop receiving a charge from the pad.

My phone’s case has a bit of a rubberized texture on the back, and the neoprene sits just about a hair’s width  higher than the charging pad, so it seems to hold pretty well under the majority of circumstances.

Yeah, but what you did is super creative!

Oh, I love the ZF gearboxes, it’s just I sort of want a BMW/Alfa Romeo style stick, actually the same one they have in the Range Rover Sport (which is only like ...£ 60,000 out of my price range) as the dial sort of feels weird. I’m used to autoboxes, I’ve got an ancient one in my V8 Range Rover Classic, I think it’s just the dial which I don’t like... oh well, maybe I need to test drive one perhaps?

Yeah, I say go for the test drive and see how it feels . To me, the dial gear selector is something that took very little time to get used to. I leave it in “Drive” 99% of the time. But put it in “Sport”, change the drive mode to Dynamic, and it really moves like a proper sports saloon car.

I also like that the dial retracts into the console when the car is off. It’s a tiny little touch that is quite nice.
