All of this 80s coloration has me in the mood for some 80s jams.

Here’s another:

The whole album is pretty good.

No fan of 80s pop, but Aimee Mann is uber talented, and this song is a guilty pleasure. Good choice!

Mellow, dark jams.

Oh yeah I have that album.

It really is. Too bad they never had other singles make it as big.

I think joining this group was a bit of a departure for her into pop, if I remember.
![]() 06/09/2020 at 14:25 |

You have to not think too much about the lyrics, or it does get a little dark.

I have the Berlin album too. The Metro is a g ood track.

What’s up with Kinja this week? I haven’t been able to post a proper link from YouTube in over a week. I see that others aren’t having the same problem. Anyway, the link above is to a new song from The Vapors. Remember them? Yeah, the guys from ‘Turning Japanese’ fame have a new song 40 years later. It’s actually pretty fun.
Please excuse me, but I’m feeling ancient right now...

Ok good pun on the “Teal Tuesday”

Man when you guys do this I start hunting through my files, I grew up with this music so it gets me. They said dark and mellow, this is a good one, my fav edit:

It’s surprising the number of people who have no idea what the songs they’re listening to are really about.

Let’s go a little lighter.

I was listening to Turning J apanese a while ago. Move over on the park bench, I brought some crumbs for the pigeons.

I’m sure I don’t know what you’re talking about, good sir.
![]() 06/09/2020 at 14:43 |

Heres an underrated "pop" band from the 80s
![]() 06/09/2020 at 14:44 |

Yup, and a surprising number of those tracks are Rick Oc asek songs. ;)

Was having the same problem. Would not take from clipboard but did let me paste

I like that. Pretty good for chilling out on a summer evening.

I don’t have many of those haha, I’m off to the beach, laters

Just when Kinja seems like it’s almost fixed something new decides to break. Such is the circle of life...

Yes, that was not a “top-10" mainstay. It’s funny how punk influences wormed their way into pop and mixed in a weird way with the “second B ritish invasion” feel. A very interesting time for po p music.

It took me a while to get it. :)
![]() 06/09/2020 at 14:58 |

That just makes it better in the end.

Also any excuse to hear Aimee Mann sing "Voices Carry" is a good one.
![]() 06/09/2020 at 15:03 |

And to look at her do anything, if I’m honest.
![]() 06/09/2020 at 15:05 |

Maybe the Plimsouls almost snuck into top 10 territory? Didnt look it up. Game Theory to me is more an extension of Big Star/Alex Chilton

Now we’re talking like we should be writing the blurbs for Pandora. ;)

I’ve heard this played at weddings & (back when it was a thing people did) as dedications on the radio more times than I can count:
Yeah, maybe just listen beyond the first line!

Ha! I'm a music junkie mostly into indie, post punk, punk/hardcore, and metal/doom. My ex-wife is the expert on 80s pop. I can always be pulled in by R&B and can have a soft spot for a good pop album like Crowded House or Keane (I remember a great Simple Minds album but don't remember which)

I don’t call myself a junkie, because I think that implies I pay more attention than I do. I just keep my mind open and give anything a chance. I even try to give my daughter’s hip hop stuff a good listen on road trips. I’m finding stuff to like there, but I’ve told her some stuff is a hard no and is banished from my radio, like Shawn Mendes, for example.

Not a fan of modern radio, so mostly listen to a local oldies station or Little Stevens Garage on XM. Ive got thousands of albums on vinyl, cassette, and CD, so maintain an old school stereo. My kiddo likes EDM, punk, and delves into whatever might be interesting to him at the moment. I keep an open mind, has turned me on to some good dokm . Mostly I just find more bands of my era, or find live youtubes of bands I already am into. Shawn Mendes ftw!

What interests me is how some of the top 40 today is starting to sound a bit like the 80s brit-pop stuff I remember. I can’t remember names of tracks or groups right now, but it interests me how cycles happen.
![]() 06/09/2020 at 16:55 |

Thanks for that! I guess i was thinking about "once upon a time"? The choruses have a bit more soar? Kind of like why Keane is such a guilty pleasure!. Definately remember " Promise you a Miracle" reminds me of ex- wife (ha in a good way we are still friends!)

Havent heard or gotten into much new and big in a while. Sometimes SNL has to be my gateway to whats pop culture as a getting older. SZA is a great hip hop (trap music?) artist I very much like to listen to the CTRL record

This was early in their career, they morphed into more of a pure pop band later on. Good to hear you get along with your ex, I loathe mine :)
