Lame name, but maybe people will remember it.

If it takes off as a real BaT competitor (guessing that’s a long shot) , that 4.5% commission will make another healthy income stream. Not sure why anyone would pay such a high commission to sell a car, but if it can get a seller hooked up with the right buyer(s), maybe it’s worth it.

I love you, Doug, but the rationale for creating this is darn near the same reason the BaT guys gave for starting BaT.

I kind of like it, though, as long as they’ll still have some way to weed out the crap. Sounds less pretentious, and like they’ll take a lot of cars that now get snubbed elsewhere. That seems to be the hole to fill right now. (TWSS.)

Sounds like the big feature is really less picky screening and quicker screening and launching of auctions compared with BaT.

The whole “limited to cars from the 80's and newer” thing doesn’t seem like that big a deal. I can scroll past older cars that I’m not interested in, and this would exclude some great older Porsches that I . . . well, could never afford anyway, so nevermind.

I’m interested to see what Daddy Doug does with this. I can see a niche for someone focusing on stuff that is neat, but not necessarily special. BaT seems to have pretty effectively claimed the spot for things that are special and not the stuff usually bought exclusively by rich boomers at Barret-Jackson buying the 'merican iron of their youth.

So it’s where the BaT rejects all funnel to? It’s providing a platform for a speculative market BELOW other platforms for speculative markets. People are going to scoop up good, clean regular cars and flip them, the way every car on BaT is basically a flip factory for more desirable vehicles.

Yes - good point. I said it wrong.

The buyer’s fee has a minimum of $225, but it’s capped at $4,500 so fees don’t become prohibitive for buyers.

Really, it's just the same phenomenon that happens with all auctions. Just need two people who want the same thing badly enough, and get caught up in the excitement. Never bought a car that way, but have overpaid for antique books like that, being slightly drunk helps, too.

I bought a car there for $7500, and I didn’t even have to pay a buyer’s fee because the winning bidder backed out and I was second-highest. 10/10 would recommend.
