I need shopping but can’t be arsed with all the palaver of people, so I’m going into work at 4am (the store opens to the public at 7am) (on my two weeks off) to get some shoppin g and come home.
So far on my list I’ve sausages (various), steak?, burgers, rosti potatoes, streaky bacon (U.S. bacon), prepped veg, bread buns and milk.
What else should I get (no alc ohol, I’ve sufficient).
Ideas?

A fiver for the poor kid you’re about to wake up out of a nice warm bed to run and get your groceries.

Looks like you got the essentials covered.
I like to have some crisps; even though I don’t eat a lot of them, every now and then I just like the huge burst of salt, potato, and jalapeno flavour (my favourite chip flavour). They should be the kettle cooked variety as well.
I also like fruit candies for the same reason, so maybe a pack of fruit Mentos.
Maybe canned beans and eggs if you don’t have enough at home, gotta get those breakfast foods in there, too.

Lego, 3 jars of peanut butter, 2 gallons of orange juice, and the third Harry Potter book.

No, I’m going myself. I’ll be awake and doing it at that time means the shelves will be almost their fullest and won’t have members of the public going back and forth ignoring the signs.

You didn't mention pie or cake, everyone needs a little of those.

Good call of the eggs and crisps, I’ve plenty Crunchy Nut Cornflakes for cereal, but may get some lorne/square sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, etc... for a fry up breakfast.
And possibly a visit down the sweets aisle.

Not had those in years, that’s an idea. Nice one.

No to the Lego, it’s ruddy expensive over here. I hate peanut butter, may get some breakfast juice (orange, clementine and grapefruit) and can’t be arsed with a book. Lol.

To put it mildly, a recent round of renovations have made almost every large store resemble a Byzantine shopping maze. I wish one way aisles, much less ones that wide, was a reality.

I could get some pies and cakes, maybe a few vanilla slices (two pastry sheets with thick jelly like custard sandwiched in the middle and topped with icing).

We got slated in the local press for not being as strict with customers with the one way systems. We have security on the doors, but we didn’t have them making sure customers maintained correct distances like some other stores. So we put down more visible signs (well, put down, hung up and suspended them from the ceiling).
That aisle is a wide aisle and most others are just two thirds the width, but still a good two metres wide.

Is this cake too excessive. Thorntons Sticky Toffee celebration cake.
And settle for a couple of pork pies.

Ha, more like a cart path with barely room for two to pass at the same time. W hile an inordinate amount of tags stick out from the shelves to help you gauge that last half inch accurately enough to avoid knocking stuff off them.
It is a truly onerous experience I’d classify far from enjoyment.

Our aisles are at least three trolleys wide.
The shelf edge bits of plastic are a pain in the arse, or rather head. Get too close while your filling the shelf and go to stand, it’s easy to get one of those give you a large scratch down your nose. But all shelving had kick bars at the bottom that stick out two inches from the shelving so no PPS shou ld catch anyone.
Shopping is never really pleasurable , the pleasure comes from having done it and knowing you don’t have to go back for a few days at least.

Pork pies with piccalilli ( cauliflower, onions and gherkins in a vinegar and English mustard powder).
Bloody beautiful on a meat pie.

It’s the only “fresh” food that i can’t live with.
