My daughter spotted this across the street while we were out. We detoured to snap these. The owner saw us taking pics and came out to talk to us.
He said he bought it for his wife. I asked him how much was original on it. He told me all of it except that he recently replaced the original generator with a GM alternator. I chuckled at that.

There is a ‘59 Edsel wagon here in my town, which was donated to a local children’s home that has yet to decide what to do with it. I’m sort of contemplating making them an offer.

I’ll probably be in the minority here but I don’t care for the look of these. However that two tone is fucking lovely.

You’re not wrong, it’s horrific to look at.

Edsels were a little awkward looking on the front but the rest looks quite nice. Beautiful in that shade of pink too. I actually quite like the rear end. Great story makes me appreciate the car too.

A Corsair hardtop, nice.
Funny, years ago when the fintail’s generator needed to be rebuilt, the old time mechanic at the little shop I patronized said he could replace it with the alternator from a Ford Fairmont, of all things. I declined. Generators seem to be a 10-15 year rebuild interval .

It might be your only chance if you want one.

They’re cool, but they aren’t attractive. They were described as an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon back in their day.

I like them because they’re ugly. It’s pretty rare to have a car that is so universally disliked.

Well you’d be in the majority of buyers when they were new, I think. Nostalgia makes things look better to a lot of people. Personally, I would like it if not for the signature vertical grille; it’s the same reason most Alfas don’t look good to me.

Snow White over Talisman Red, I believe.

Yeah those look better from the back or side. The front view is not attractive.

That’s how I feel about them. I’m not a pink fan myself, but I still like how the car wears it.

It never even occurred to me to wonder about that until he mentioned it.

Was that once actually red, or just a color they named red?

Have to agree. The last year they got rid of the vertical grille and thus improved the looks but also made it look too much like cheaper Fords.

That's what they called pink that year, for some reason. Guess it sounded better than 1958's Chalk Pink.

It still does.

I disagree 59' is rather attractive from front to me. Best looking year for Edsel hands down. 58' looks ok to me but 60' is just botched version of the same years very nice Ford design.

So it’s like those troll dolls back in the day?

I’m not really a huge fan of this era of cars in general. I’m a pre-war kinda guy.

But the colors are so soothing!

I’m kinda both. But prewar luxury cars are my sweet spot.
