Strongly disagree. This is a result of years of militarizing police without appropriate training, and with no accountability of actions for any police force, anywhere due to a stance by BOTH parties of not wanting to look “weak” on crime.

Minnesota historically has been more liberal than the surrounding states. The democratic party there is known as the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party and generally controls state politics, although the republicans currently have a majority in the state senate. Left-leaning t hird parties also have had some success in MN, including the green party and, perhaps most famously, the reform party with Jesse “The Body” Ventura elected as governor.

The Ds probably want to be “civil” and not upset the praetorian heroes.    Good point though, nobody on the political spectrum has breathed a word about accountability put on law enforcement for when they become abusive and/or act in error.  Kind of reminds me how big business is treated with kid gloves.

This is utter bullshit. However, it was expressly authorized by the democratic governor of the state. His order says: “For the purposes of this Executive Order, a ‘ public place’ is any place, whether on privately or publicly owned property, accessible to the general public, including but not limited to public streets and roads, alleys, highways, driveways, sidewalks, parks, vacant lots, and unsupervised property.” T he FAQs on the MPS website say:

This incident certainly seems like it’s transcended from State of Emergency to Martial Law.

Like fuck if I’d be outside my home if a HUMVEE and a bunch of up-armored gun wielding dudes start going down the block. You wouldn’t have to tell me to be inside and I certainly wouldn’t think I could call a bluff on a command.

I think they should have allowed another 5s  for her to retreat after the draw though. Shooting was quick AF.

It does seem a bit over the top, yeah.

Here in Richmond there was some pretty serious rioting last night. The city (which I don’t live in, thankfully) set a curfew of 8 PM tonight, and since many businesses, both locally owned and chain, were ransacked a lot of others are closing up early even in the suburbs, including my own store. I’ve dealt firsthand with rioting while at work, and it makes me uncomfortable that people here are condoning it. This will be my last appearance here  for awhile.

By the language they used; I hear it as ‘go inside your home/go inside ’ (command to shelter inside the structure ) as opposed to ‘ stay on your property/stay back ’ (command to only vacate streets and sidewalks ).

Inside being behind the walls , doors , windows of a fully enclosed building . Not on the porch, steps, gazebo, under an awning etc .

I agree this was an extreme measure, but it’s certain prelude in that   they aren’t going to put up with the anarchy shit tonight and want people to hunker down.  The fools that are going to sneak out tonight whether it be to do crime or watch the spectacle   are taking a hell of a risk.

Under normal means absolutely not. And granted most 1st world countries manage to stay away from such measures.

However, something like a martial law may still be enacted through a wartime or emergency act if an situation is extreme enough . You might be able to find it in a deep dive through your government laws (there’s a bunch of rather eye opening stuff,   should you search).

I mean, in the States they can enact States of Emergency and command people to shelter in event of a tornado or hurricane or leave their properties in the event of consuming wildfire.

What’s eyebrow raising about this though is that they used an act of violence to carry out the given protection order. In essence it’s extremely bizarre and well, not right at all.
