Now that I’ve tinted my G37x. 35% on the front, 5% everywhere else. Easily the best $120 I’ve spent on this car.
Before:
No longer a fish bowl.
Now I’m painting the grill gloss black after testing to see how I like it with plastidip. Also bought a lip spoiler for the rear window and I’m pricing out the cost to lower it, since I’ve got the springs ready to go (unless someone in the midwest is interested in helping and has space/tools).
It’s really coming along!

Glad it makes you happy, can you help me understand the appeal of tints? I’ve had to remove this crap from almost every car I buy and I just don’t understand how the previous owners could safely see out to drive in most lighting conditions. Sure they can look a little better in a photo of your car, but that seems like such a weird reason to make your car harder to safely drive everyday

So people can’t see into your car/you driving it. Much r educed interior temps on sunny days, along with less sunburns.
Not being able to see well at night only is a problem for states that allow tint forward the B pillar.

Id recommend against a roof spoiler since they negatively affect aerodynamics but either way its gonna look even gooder lowered

It helps keep the car cooler in summer and personally, I prefer a somewhat darker interior. Maybe it’s just what I’m used to but I feel oddly exposed driving a car without tinted windows. I’ve never noticed much of a visibility loss either, but that may be related to the quality of the tint.

Nice! I need to tint the Mini, the AC takes a while to cool it down lol
Are you planning to blackout all the chrome on the window borders and the lip on the boot?

I want to tint my Mini coz the AC is not sufficient to cool the interior down quickly. My Vette has a dark tint applied by the previous owner but it dosent affect the visibility out of the windows imo.

If you live somewhere like the high deserts of the Southwest where the sun is an ever prese nt , oppressive orb of woe in the sky much of the year, tinting car windows is a way of life. Combined with a good windshield sun shade, it gives a better chance that you touch any surface in the car after it has been parked outside in the summer and gives the interior a chance at not starting to disintegrating within even just a few years old . It also prevents figurative and sometimes literal sunburn while driving and gives the A/C a better shot at keeping things reasonable without being on full blast all the time. In Southern NM seeing car with untinted windows is downright rare.

I’ve got a black leather interior and no garage to keep it in. In the summer, it gets HOT. I’ve already noticed cooler temps. Also, I’ve driven at night and I’m still able to see just fine.

Chrome will get 3M wrapped in gloss black, I’m gonna see how my painting skills are on the grille, but probably get a full width lip and paint it gloss black as well. I have white decals waiting to go on the sides as well. I’m going full ricer, don’t worry.

It’s a very small lip and I already get 23 mpg highway, so I don’t care a ton haha

Fair enough, they do look good and you’ll gain them mpgs back with the lower ride height

Yeah, I’m really excited to lower it. Not slammed, but a nice 1” drop all around.

Yeah, all my cars are tinted I do live in Georgia. And tint also helps protect the interior of your car, the seats dashboard etc.. It protects you skin from UV and allows your car privacy especially now adays. I even have my windshield tinted and its awesome keeps the sunlight out and allows flair to the vehicle as well.

Thats awesome! But to be a true ricer you need at least 4 deg of negative camber...
Also, My garage will be empty next week and I can help but it would be around a 6-9 hr drive one way to get to my place in southern Indiana lol

Yeah, I’d love to but gas costs wouldn’t save a ton over just having it done by a shop around here. I’ll definitely keep it in the back of my mind though

That all makes sense, I lived in LA for quite a while, always sunny but not that hot (as well as many sunny, 90s, and humid southern/Midwest locales) and was always satisfied with just the foldable sunshade for keeping the interior cool even on the worst days .
But I can definitely imagine that it gets unbearable in Phoenix or Vegas or whatever, places I’ve only ever spent a day or two at a time.
My confusion over the popularity is less about whether they are good for cooling and more about how hard it is for me to see through them at night, though. The tints I’ve removed have been darker than any sunglasses I’ve ever owned, which makes night driving truly terrifying! Do you eventually get used to it. Or do I probably just have worse than average night vision?

Fair, I made do with a foldable sunshade for those situations in my life; but I also learned my lesson on the one black interior I ever owned (why aren’t there more brown leather options? I love a good brown interior!) As long as you’re happy and safe at night and the car looks amazing, enjoy the tints! Think I might need to get my eyes checked for night vision problems!

That’s a good point. I bought a car from Florida once with a serious (like almost opaque!) tint on every window and the top 8 inches of the windshield, that was a total nightmare! The only ones that really messed up my vision were the windshield and front windows, I could have lived with the others if I had to

Guess a lot of it is preference/what we’re used to. I really like a bright open car, and full sunlight whenever possible, but I know not everyone is like me! Plus I truly am starting to think I have a bit of a night vision deficiency!
