Tldr: people are stupid and will eat soap, drink drain cleaner, and give their children bootlegger alcohol.
If you need a “
leader” to tell you not to drink draino, then it's not leadership that failed, it's the education system.

pretty much sums it up.

Appropriate. Fuck all who either voted for this, or who still support this side.

If you need a teacher to teach to not drink draino (after you’ve already been taught to read), it’s not our education system that has failed, you have the “dumbass gene”.
Our education system has failed because we focus on just getting people jobs rather than actually teaching them about how the world works. You see this with people with high paying jobs who have no clue.

This is a fair point, but people in positions of leadership actively spreading disinformation (or poorly researched claims at best), can confuse the situation.
After all, a large part of our education is to conform to the directions of a leadership figure, and that is also why it is such a scandal when a teacher or coach takes advantage of that situation.

This is why we should groom people to think for themselves ;)
The best teachers I’ve ever had taught me to challenge assumptions and think for myself.

Good take.

I’m all for people thinking for themselves, but there are a lot of people that try that without the important aspect of critical think ing, and I believe that’s how we get conspiracy nuts.
Honestly, I think we’d be better of teaching people that we’re all in this together, with examples of h ow an individual’s actions can affect so many other people. If we had that sort of thinking top to bottom instead of the current widespread culture of “I gotta fight for MY rights!”, I believe we’d be a much better country.

I don’t know about that. The dangers of groupthink are well documented.

Not groupthink, empathy.
Groupthink is an excuse from personal responsiblity. I’m advocating for encouraging personal responsibility, especially in how it affects others.

I don’t think you can teach empathy. The frontal lobe, which isn’t full developed until late in the teenage years, is responsible for empathy. I worry about some of the drugs voluntarily being used or pumped into kids disrupting that development. My brother started doing some awful
drugs in highschool and struggles with decision making. The empathy part of his brain is broken. No training is going to fix it.
