I have about 80mb of pics to upload from Patoka Lake but this isn’t the ideal spot to do so. Just a little far from a decent cellular connection.
But hi from the Middle of Nowhere.
As always, that hill is a lot steeper than it appears. No 1st gear made 4wd effectively mandatory.

That is an impressive distance from civilization. I look forward to seeing more photos. Always like to see some LJ action.

I’m jealous, we have no access to lots of dirt roads, they are all fire roads or private property. There are some up north and by Lake Tahoe, but it’s goi ng to be a long drive in an M37! We do have a state recreation area south but I suspect they are visited by a bunch of bro s, and it wouldn’t be a nice trip through nature.

Southern Indiana really is a little known gem. He’s maybe an hour from Louisville or two hours from Indianapolis (from where the blacktop
ended at least.. ;-) )

There are basically no public dirt or gravel roads anywhere near me that I know of. Not that I have the car for offroad exploration but such activities are noticeably lacking nearby.
What makes it an experimental forest?

How do you like those tires? What size are you running?
Looking at putting 31x10.50 on my stock 15’s and stock suspensions. I want to go KO2’s but don’t want to spend the money on a non-DD.

I don’t have much to compare them against. I’ve been pleased with their longevity and they get me where I need to go, even with(out) my faulty lockers, but it’s been a few years since I’ve done any off-roading
Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ, 265/75R16. 4.5 years now, about 60k miles. I go with a 5 tire rotation to stretch them out.

Regrettably Indiana has very few designated forest roads of any length in the Hoosier National Forest. Off-roading was banned a few decades ago after idiots started racing through the forest, and most of the old dirt roads that cut through the forest were closed to unauthorized traffic.
The one I took today was about a half mile long, give or take, and one of only maybe a half dozen of any length at all, and all of those are dead ends.
I discovered one by accident that actually is quite long and connects two roads, but when I called the local ranger station it turned out that it had been effectively abandoned, and the local utility company has the exclusive right to use it.
