So back when I first bought my 68 C10 (that we are currently restoring - see my other posts) my grandpa drove my truck a few times and couldn’t stop talking about how much he liked driving it. Well one Friday I went over to visit and sitting next to my C10 was a 71 C10. He had decided to go out and buy himself a C10 to restore and “practice” on shortening a long box before we went to town on my 68 C10. The plan was to just restore the truck and sell it for a profit. Well we got that truck 98% done and put in on craigslist. Had a few tire kickers and flakes, but then a guy out of state called and had to have the truck. He had a 64 Chevelle he wanted to trade straight across. This car is way nicer than the truck in pictures, so much so that my grandfather tried to persuade the guy that it was not worth the drive because his car was so much nicer. The guy still wanted to trade. He called said he was coming down with the Chevelle in tow to trade. Well he gets here and the Chevelle is still a super nice car, but the pictures hid a few a problems, that put it in the realm of the truck. Guy looked at the truck for 5 mins, asked my grandpa to look at the Chevelle and the trade was made.
Here is a few pics of the 71 my grandfather had restored. It was pretty much a brand new truck, all new trim, paint, wood bed, bumpers, interior, etc. It was just a nice clean driver. Had a 350 small block and a th350 trans.
So with the truck gone, this Chevelle now fills the space and wow, there is quite a bit of stuff done to this car.
Here is a cold start clip of the Chevelle:
Specs for the Chevelle:
502 Big block - pretty stout cam, Edelbrock intake and carb, MSD 6AL box,
Vintage Air underdash A/C
Tremec TKO 5 Speed
QA1 comeplete stage 2 suspesion - tubular a arms, trailing arms, large sway bars, single adjustable coil over shocks
12 bolt posi with 4:10 gears
hydro boost brakes with 4 wheel discs, also has a line lock
Dakota Digital gauges
Aftermarket radio with custom kick panel speakers
Aftermarket TMI sport bucket seats with original style covers, but alot more bolster.
factory 4 speed console, new headliner, new carpet, door panels, kick panels.
The only thing really wrong with the car is the exterior. the rear window needs replaced, side glass wont roll up and down, it had quater panels put on and the truck gaps are really off.
So the current plan is fix some of the big issues and possibly repainting the car blue as my grandfather cant really stand all the orange on the car.

Tremec TKO 5 Speed
and
factory 4 speed console
Pardon my ignorance, but how does that work? Is the stock shifter swapped out for a 5-speed one, or am I misunderstanding this?

it has an offset shifter top plate to move the handle wher e it pops up on a stock 4 speed hole location. The consoles are different between a auto and manual car in chevelle’s. There are kits out there for a lot of cars to be mostly direct swaps from 4 to 5 speeds and keeping the stock look.

The actual center console is for a 4 speed car. The actual trans is a 5 speed.

Ah! that was the answer I needed. Thank you.

I got that part. What I didn’t get was how that is done to work together. Camaroboy answered that question.

Jesus. Sounds like a fun car. Is it hard to drive? I've always wondered what those QA1 suspensions feel like, because that is not a cheap upgrade. And it would look great blue!

I have only gone for a short ride at this point. DMV is closed currently and cant get the title transferred or a set of plate and tags at the moment. From that little ride though the car felt planted but not jarring. We could mess with the shocks and see what happens. We floored it and the thing hooked and was gone. The closest thing I can compare it too was the first time I rode in a hellcat for the power.

I have a friend with a 502 in a 67 Camaro. He is thinking about selling that drive train and running an LS instead. He said it currently has so much power that driving it is kind of a pain.

I can see his point with a powerful big block in a first gen camaro. The subframe/unibody design of the camaro is not really great for a big torque motor as there is alot of flex on those cars. So far this motor seems like a decent motor, but we havent been able to drive it at all any distance to see if it has any heating issues or other big block issues.

Love old Chevelles (‘67 was always my fav year) but man... at 3200lb that’s gotta be seriously quick. I had a ‘69 Stingray roadster years ago in LeMans Blue which would look great on that car I think.

It got with the program in a hurry when we took a little test drive. Funny you should mention LeMans Blue as my 68 Camaro is painted that color and that was the first idea my grandpa had when the chevelle was parked next to my car, was that the blue would be perfect on the chevelle, lol.

Your family Chevy collection is impressive, you just need to get rid of that 33, unless it’s Chevy powered.
And what are you paint plans for your c10, cause that truck just begs to be blue two tone.

The 33 is pretty much a Camaro in disguise. It has a 70 LT-1 corvette motor, th350, 12 bolt posi out of a 68 camaro. Even the paint is the 90s teal of a camaro.
As for my 68 C10, the plan is that two tone as my truck is already a factory two tone and has all the trim to split it up. The blue I am going is with the Medium Blue Poly that was offered on the trucks. It has alot more metallic than the light blue like the truck you posted.
