Tomorrow morning, my 8th grade boys will be taking part in a middle school graduation parade. Basically, it’s one lap around the school while the teachers cheer and hold signs or something. Yay, coronavirus. Anyway, I thought it would be neat to do that slow drive with the side sliding doors of our Odyssey open, but there’s an alarm buzzer that goes off when you put the car in drive with the doors open. What are the chances that there is a single fuse I can pull out to stop that noise for the parade, without also disabling some critical system?

Update: Tekamul had the easy solution. Open the doors, turn off the dashboard switch that keeps the kids from opening the doors themselves. No buzzer. Super simple.

Just pull 47

Easier fix...is there a momentary switch the doors just push in when they are shut as with the front doors to make the interior light go out / make the car think the doors are shut?
i.e. - just look for said switch on either sliding door and put some duct tape over it?

Might be easier to trick the sensor.

You might be able to just temporarily disconnect the buzzer if it’s not buried too far in the dash. I think they're commonly in the driver's footwell.

Good idea. It could be as simple as a piece of tape to keep a peg depressed

Probably not a good idea to disable brake lights in a parade..

I’ll look, but I think it might be more complicated than that. The door has many electrical sensors to indicate that it’s closed, and when those sensors get dirty, the door alarm buzzes intermittently.

Jjust turn the dash switch off. The buzzer turns off with it. I did it all the time in my 99

I think he meant 42.

manual or power sliding doors? if manual, you might be able to just close the latch using e.g. a screwdriver shaft; usually the door open sensor is just a switch inside the latch.
if they’re power sliders, there might be position sensors in the door mechanism that can’t be fooled as easily. I don’t think there’s a fuse that can be pulled, the buzzer is part of the gauge cluster.

So you’re saying open the doors then turn off the switch? Brilliant. Hadn’t thought of that. I’ll give it a try. Thanks!

Solder on a wire across all of those contacts.

Just smack the area where the sound is coming from with a hammer until it stops making noise.

Even better.

Power. I think Tekamul came up with the best answer. Open the doors then turn off the dashboard switch that allows them to open and close (kid safety feature). That should shut off the buzzing.

Brilliant!

Works with my kids, should work with the van. Thanks!

This guy disabled the buzzer permanently on his 99...it’ll be a little more work than you’re probably interested in doing, even if you want to make the change but here it is anyway.

Unplug the buzzer, unless it goes through the stereo

if that works that’ll be gravy, ‘cos there’s a lot going on inside that door control system. at least by what I’ve found.

So many fuses for the power doors - I had no idea those things were so complex. < grumble grumble> when I was a kid we had to close t he big, heavy door, not doorS, ourselves and we liked it that way . Got some exercise, dammit.
If anything, I’d say pull interior fuses 1 and 5 that control the door control modules and perhaps that’ll trick the vehicle into thinking it’s one of those poverty-spec models without power doors. You’ll probably still have to rig the switches, if you can even access them , to fool the system into believing that the doors are closed.

Yeah, Tekamul’s solution works perfectly. Easy peasy.

Tekamul had the answer. Open the doors then turn them off with the dash switch. Boom.

Despite being on my third van I’ve never had one with power doors. Heck, the 5 is the first one I’ve had with dual sliders. I had no idea that they would include an on/off switch for that function, but it’s a good idea. I’m kind of surprised that it wouldn’t still give you a warning, but hey, if it works...

It has the on/off switch, it also had child locks. Redundancy, I guess. Having the switch is nice, though, because sometimes the doors get slightly out of alignment and the buzzer sounds intermittently, usually when going over a bump or turning a corner. It’s good to have an easy way to silence them. Should have thought of it myself. But now I know!

For the record, Fuse 15 is the one to disable the system completely. I can’t recall if it shuts up the buzzer in more situations than the off switch, but I sure remember all the family vacations where we had to pull over and rip it out!
The doors in our van weren’t quite right for the first couple years and would set off the alarm randomly (among other problems)
until Honda rebuilt them completely. I had
extra fun because my seat was closest to the buzzer.
