Guess I’m a gonna need to figure out the voltage drop across glass fuses. Couple cool cars left as they were in the 80s. Should only be like 10 circuits in the whole harness, but said harness just turned 50. Hopefully won’t be rocket surgery. Got a 65 GMC with ground issues on thursday to look at.

Not sure how voltage drop helps unless you. Do you mean remove the fuse and see if there is current?

Put an amp meter on your battery cable, and pull one fuse at a time. The draw will be measured on the meter. You pull the fuse that drops the draw, BINGO!
I can’t imagine that car drawing more than what’s required for the radio memory. .01-.03 amps.
The tricky part is you’ll need to do it with the doors closed, or at least get your finger on the plunger while.
It’s a lot
trickier
with newer cars, though.
Not only do they have like,
100 fuses, they have systems that stay on for a while after
after you close the door, and can sense your keyfob when it’
s near.

My amp clamp only handles ac current, air conditioners and such, car was dead last time I had a look. hopefully it will be self evident.

got to milliamps on the meter, watch it drop, refer to chart, go looking on whichever circuit it is. I just don’t have a chart for glass fuses. T he same amperage of fuses have different drop values in differe n t styles.

Can your meter measure DC amps the old-fashioned way- through the test leads?

never found a draw, found a f ailing voltage regulator running at a boiling 16 volts. not really gonna hurt the car, but the battery will not enjoy it.

Maybe your battery has very little storage capacity left and just won’t tolarate sitting very long anymore. I wonder if the overvoltage accelerated things.

one year old kirkland battery, The guy who built the car is no longer around, I’m going with the ov ercharge damaging the battery itself. going back today with a known good regulator.
