Photo for illustration. This is not me.

Not because I think I have it, but because I’m have an outpatient procedure next week. However, now I’m supposed to quarantine until the procedure, which is a week from tomorrow. The instruction sheet they gave me doesn’t seem all that strict, and is really not that much different from what we’ve been doing since spring break. I just can’t go to the store or go out for anything .

Kinja'd!!!

As for the test, it wasn’t bad at all. The giant swab they stuck in my nose was flexible, and they only did one side of my nose. The doctor also said that my nasal passages were straight and unobstructed. It was just a bit tickly. What I’d like to have is the antibody test. I got a bit sick at the very beginning of all this, and I’d love to know if I had a mild case of the corona . It was probably just a cold, but s till....

Whoa, they stick that thing way further up there than I realized. I wonder if my deviated septum would create an issue

Oppo’s own Snuze had a rapid test at a hospital that he said was pretty awful. Maybe the rapid test is different, or requires deeper insertion? I don’t know. I won’t have my results for a few days. But the doctor showed me the swab, which was made of flexible plastic and not wood, and it did go pretty far in there.

I had a 3 week bout of a “lung infection” in January, and then my parents got it, and it least for my dad, turned into pneumonia. I’m 90% sure I had it.

You should investigate getting an antibody test. They’re not 100% accurate, but it’s worth a shot just to know.

I was sick a couple of weeks before all of this broke and I’ve been wondering the same thing. Although, I was in close proximity to my daughter the weekend before I got sick and she got sick too. Her mom did the smart thing and had her tested for flu and the test came back positive. I’m pretty sure we had the same thing, but you never really know.

I worry if I had to get it done that my nasal passages would be all screwy and it would be painful....it LOOKS painful! Glad to hear it’s not as bad as it looks!

Don’t worry, they’re working on a home test...

One wrong turn and you get a free lobotomy!

That looks fucking painful.

I don’t have exactly clear shotgun nasal passages. Heaven forbid you have dry nasals that day.

or the rapid test was really fast and they didnt ease it in there?

My sister is an RN doing tests and she said it goes in, then goes in further, you feel like it's tickling your brain and they leave it there a few seconds. I'm good with not enduring any of that.

My test was nothing like that. I hope they did it right!

Sounds like you’re pretty confident test will come back negative. My wife had a drive thru COVID test as well recently - for the same reason, to get seen for something else and because she mentioned she had a lingering cough. Results came back within 6 hours and was negative.

I had a phone screening as well since I had a fever almost 2 months ago at this point and potential “COVID toe” - but was told I will most likely test negative this far out, so no real point.

We’d both find the antibody testing far more useful as well, but that’s simply not an option available at this time we were told. Plus I suppose it’s still not guaranteed that testing positive for antibodies = immunity.

Yeah, my wife thinks us and the kids had it in late February early March though I was the only one with significant upper respiratory symptoms. The odd common factor for all of us was a somewhat lasting decrease in the sense of smell and taste..

As they become more available we hope to get antibody tests..

I have no reason to suspect that it will come back positive. I haven’t been sick at all, aside from some cold/flu symptoms back in early March. They told me it would be a matter of days to get the results. That’s why I had the test a full week before my procedure.

I think that’s a pretty strong giveaway, I don’t think more routine colds/flu have such a significant impact on smell/taste.

I’ve been really wondering if I, and 4 of my 6 coworkers, had this think back in February. Correlation isn’t causation, but the circumstantial evidence kind of lines up. Been waiting for things to settle down a little and for the medical system to get back on a footing where they can start taking more routine/optional appointments to see about getting a test.

A friend of mine tested positive for COVID-19, his mom got sick shortly afterward and tested positive for the flu, then got worse, was hospitalized for a few days , and tested positive for COVID. I don’t think the tests are totally foolproof, and I guess it is possible to have both flu and COVID at the same time, so there’s also  that.

Exactly. It’s very suspicious, especially once we learned about asymptomatic infections and the various ways it presents. As you say, correlation is not causation, but the circumstantial lines enough to try to get an antibody test once it's possible.

Deviated septum (an a gazillion other normal variant anatomies) will not make it easier. You’ll want to tell them beforehand. Likely, they won’t know what to do with that information and will just (try to) proceed as usual.

It really depends on your specific anatomy.  The flexible swab will help.

Kinja'd!!!1

yeah, doing it right with often complicated variant anatomy is one of the reasons they get false negatives.

My sister got antibody tested. She doesn’t have a whole lot of faith in the accuracy of the tests.

It wasn’t so bad. Maybe with a stiffer wooden stick it would have been worse. It was just tickly, as I said.
