This strikes me as a story that should be taken with a grain of salt.

Apply dead guy’s finger to fingerprint scanner, or dead guy’s face to FaceID thing

If the FBI can’t get Apple to open a phone locked with a code, what is preventing them from using the body itself to bypass physical security once deceased?

A morbid thought, ‘tis true.

Or tell us they had cracked it because they wanted to blame Al Kida.

That shooting really makes me mad. For 19 years we’ve known that it was mostly Saudis that did 9/11, a Saudi led Al Qaeda, Saudis sponsor Wah habi radical islam, they suppress freedoms, they kill journalists... I guess I could go on with this list for a while, but in the end , we still consider them allies and our friends in the middle east, and we train their soldiers on our bases in our techniques . International politics is mind boggling.

Or your friend who is passed out drunk so you can fuck with the auto text settings.

It’s especially boggling if you have a severely limited mind, as does the current POTUS. I don’t have any trouble accepting the assertion that this was a Kida-linked act, but I also have no reason to accept as accurate or truthful anything that is put forth by the current administration.

They paid a company to access the San Bernardino s phone. There are a couple companies that have found hacks and sell their services. Whether these were jail broken and more vulnerable, I don’t think were determines. Back in 2017 on a podcast a point brought up was unlike a hacker the FB I can get the transferred data With a warrant or intercept future signals and aid in cracking. It poked a big hole in their desire for a permanent back door.

This critique is true if you inspect Saudi government, people, and culture as the monolith it is not.

Remember that when the phone re starts you need to input the code...no face or finger print.

Current POTUS is hardly to blame for this alone - this has been going on through many administrations, including your lord and savior Obama. But it is easy to blame stuff on him.

SOP now is probably to recover the phone from the body and get it unlocked and plugged into the wall ASAP

I think part of the debate how they were able to was if they were able to easily hack or bring in a super computer and brute force the encription.

Maybe that’s what we’re doing with F@h. Seriously though, it’s something I think a lot about, how cell phones own us and this is but a facet of that.
Regarding window cling stickers, I’m happy to do the leg work on those, but it would be a separate vendor and I’d need you and Nkato and whoever else to pledge to cover the cost.

Middle eastern history has taught us that there’s always gonna be some asshole over there you have to play ball with. In the end, despite the terrorism, we know we could vaporize the whole nation in a matter of minutes. Even without that, they can just look next door to Iraq for evidence of what our conventional forces can turn their country into.
They’re a lot more beholden to us than we are to them.

The FBI paid an Israeli firm $900k to crack the San Bernardino shooters’ phones back in 2016. The firm has come out and said they can crack every iPhone ever made.

It’s the arbitrary selection of assholes to like and assholes to bomb that gets me.
I’ll never get over how “hey, bunch of Saudis just committed the worst crime in the history of this country on our soil” ended up with “let’s bomb Iraq and Afghanistan.”

I recall that the dead guy tried to destroy his phones, so they were probably in pretty rough shape. My overly simplified thought is that that the FBI pulled the memory out of the phone and flashed it on another phone (x100 or x1000) and then brute forced it from there. Who knows? Maybe some security company has worked up a virtual iPhone interface that can take the cloned operating system and memory and blast it on working units under test and then brute force the unlock code. (I’m sure most folks still use numerics, so that cuts down the keyspace tremendously.)

I’d surely have no idea, but it sounds pretty cool.

It’s all a power play against Iran. Iraq is like 50% Shia, and Afghanistan is right on their border, with lots of Iranian influence.

Same, especially when you consider how much investigations cost in general. I’m guessing there was some deal where they get future contracts.

There was another case where a invoice leaked that they would hack other phones for 1500. I think the 900k was the initial contract fee. It threw their desire for a backdoor out the window.
