Well, I didn’t win it in the sense that it was free. It was an item in our high school band’s online auction, which my wife was running . I got this  case of Spot On Pils from Thirsty Planet for $22. That’s actually more than the wholesale value, but about half what it would have cost at the store. And it’s really tasty, too.

Hooray Beer!

Nice! A discount on good beer is always appreciated and you got a nice sized haul. I’m enjoying a hazy IPA from Icicle Brewing which is Leavenworth, Wa. It’s a  PNW IPA but it’s not overly bitter like some. It’s only 35 IBUs and more citrus than pine.

I know there are some low opinions around here about the Carlsberg we get in the US (it’s brewed in France, after all, not Denmark), but I like it. It comes in .5L cans, which is my favorite form factor. I popped into the liquor store at Costco the other day and found that they were selling 12-packs of the .5L cans for $7.49 each. That’s less than half what I pay at the grocery store. I bought seven of them. And I might go back for more. It’s so stupid cheap it only makes sense to buy it up.

I haven’t had Carlsberg in many years but there was a time that I drank a fair amount of it and I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. I just prefer ales these days.

My wife and I went to Denmark the late 90s, and I drank a whole lot of Carlsberg and Tuborg from the source. When we got back, I saw Carlsberg in the store so I bought some. It tasted nothing like what I remembered. So I looked at the fine print and saw that it was brewed and bottled in Canada. Different water, different beer. I’m a pilsner/lager guy, and while there’s nothing earth-shattering about this beer, it’s fine. I like it, it’s drinkable. And I really like the .5L can. I seem to be able to make that size last longer in the glass than a 12 oz, and it’s not just because there’s more there. I believe that there is psychology involved in the 12 oz serving that make it run out j ust before you feel like it should. That, in turn, makes you go open another one. And pretty soon, you need more beer.

The IPA I’m just finishing is 16oz which is close enough. I agree it’s the perfect size.

But you have to pour it into a glass, one that hold s the entire can/bottle.

Glass? You pour beer in a glass? Fancy!

If I get that fancy I have plenty of glasses that are a  pint or more.

IMO Icicle is one of the best breweries in WA. I  very much like all their stuff that I've tried.
