A source familiar with the matter told Electrek that Tesla has chosen Austin, Texas for its next factory and it’s going to happen quickly.

Will it have a landing strip for the Spruce Moose?

In b4 incessant whine about California.
Have fun, Austin!

Austin is the California of Texas.

I’m betting on east side, out by the toll road. Amazon is building a warehouse out in far east Pflugerville.

Did I miss the part where Texas began allowing direct car sales? Or is Elon trying to grease the wheels with this ? Or will he just open up shop anywhere that's cheap enough? I'm guessing it's cheap.

So I’ve heard. Soon to have LA/SF traffic no doubt.

Fine, as long as it’s that far north, or farther.
I’m dreading what things are gonna look like around here in the fall, assuming school’s open again.

Relatively cheap, tech-friendly, educated population. Still no direct sales. Too many dealership owners either in the state legislature or filling the pockets of the state legislators.

The joke’s on him, all the funnest Californians are either there already or planning to move.

We already have LA/SF traffic.

They’re already here.

I should be right in the wheelhouse of Tesla winning me over as a customer, and yet I can’t bring myself to remotely consider buying one.
I like fast cars but also taking care of the environment, I like gadgets, I like leading edge technology, they’ve even got vegan fake leather interiors, and they’re made in America .
But the cult of personality around Musk has always turned me off to the point of not wanting to join, and his becoming a full-fledged covidiot has convinced me to never buy anything from his crazy ass.

I saw those signs when I’ve been to COTA for work, always makes me chuckle because I know exactly what they mean. Sorry. Happy to visit and work there , but also happy not to change the character of your town. We have the same problem with LA and SF retirees here.

Will they just go straight to the circus tent or add that later?

Judging by the comment about wanting to make the move as quickly as possible, I’m guessing it will be a tent. Have fun building cars inside a tent during a TX summer. That said, there will be no shortage of people looking for work. Anywhere.

I think Phoenix started getting too fucking hot for them. They just send their kids here for school.

I have a feeling that will change soon. Like, in almost exactly one year from now.

My bet is toll road between 71 and 290. Close enough to railroad tracks, quick transportation north, south, and east. And lots of land to build on.

NO SIR. Austin is one of the most congested cities in Texas for the simple reason that the city refused to expand on their roads/public transportation system for 20 years after the Dot-Com Boom changed the city.
Austinites laugh at L.A. traffic like Mike Tyson laughs at a Pee Wee Boxing champ.

And close to the airport. As you say, there is a TON of open land out that way just waiting to be developed.

The son of a bitch is about to make me buy a Cybertruck with this move.
Damn you, Elon. I was planning on buying a Rivian and then you pull this diabolical crap.

I actually thought that Amazon was going to jump at that area to build HQ2. But instead, they chose Brooklyn, and then were promptly chased out of the area.
Musk 1, Bezos 0.

They still plan on building a distribution center out in east Pflugerville near the toll road. I hope they move their current location from near our house. Too damned many van in my neighborhood.
![]() 05/15/2020 at 19:16 |

Amazon is building a new distribution center literally two miles down the road from us right now. But they’re also building a Whole Foods on the same lot, so I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.

I know someone from Seattle who moved out there. I guess the transplants bring their problems with them. Just like the transplants here!

Isn’t the factory technically going to be Waco versus Austin? Because that’s where Space X is.

The topography is a bit of a challenge, too.

For the love of whatever
you think is holy, DON’T come to Austin! The infrastructure can’t handle it, and the land prices for 200 miles around are already stupid. I hear Tulsa is lovely this time of year.

Another headline I saw said “Texas or Oklahoma.” I’m voting for OK.
