So a good friend of mine started “burning” wood. Turns out, it’s a lot of fun.
The kids even got to get in on the fun:
It’s an epoxy/pearl mixture that you flow into the burned grooves. Then you sand off the face and stain and/or poly the board to get the desired effect. Some of them the kids added glow in the dark pigment, so they actually glow different colors in the dark as well.

That is awesome! Please tell me you are now adding “burned” wood paneling to the rally van?!? At least on the interior.

How do you get the burned grooves in the first place? I’m assuming you use a torch of some kind, but they look almost like fractals.

The grooves are done by wetting the face of the boards with a water/baking soda solution, then using 2 electrodes to run electricity through the board.

We always used wood burning kits to make the name boards for the horse stalls. This is slightly more artistic.

Wow, huge flashback there to the “information center” on my dad’s ~93 Grand Caravan.
