In reality, I’m really excited I found this thing, I just had to share it with someone. Already tipped Bradley Brownell about it, aswell as JIC (builder) and Tyler McQuarrie (driver) . I’m really f-ing excited about this, since nobody else has seem to realized that this is THE car.
Here’s a parts list Jon Kaneda (owner of JIC/builder of the car) posted on a forum before he sold the car in 2011:

and here’s the current listing from a shop in Lithuania called TRT Motorsport:

The parts list is a dead ringer- the suspension has been changed to be track focused, but the engine (despite TRT claiming to have overhauled it- I doubt it) and everything is still there.
IMO it kinda looks like TRT is being really shady. The car is a 1996 Eurospec RS, not a real GT2... And they look like they’re taking credit for parts JIC custom fabrication, and they’re not properly disclosing the cars history. I mean- despite them claiming the car was overhauled only 3 years ago, they haven’t posted a single picture on their IG of it being worked on.

I mean even the creases are the same.
Even the order of the parts list is pretty much identical save for the suspension, which had been changed out for Ohlins, and 997 cup brake calipers.

Really excellent sleuthing here, certainly looks convincing. Wonder what the story is from 2011 to now? Even if it's "just" a 993 RS instead of a GT2 it's worth a serious chunk.

I suspect that there was likely an intermediate owner between 2011 and 2017, and they’re the ones who did all of the work on the car. The listing is throwing some red flags for me.
Then again I’ve never bought a race car before, so I wouldn’t know what to expect.

Really the worse part is- if he had just looked up JIC Porsche 993, the very second result o n google was from Speedhunters (which he used a video clip from), with an interview with Jon Kaneda who owns the car. In the interview he says it’s a converted 1996 euro spec 993 RS.
Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting him to spend the 3 hrs it took me to find the car (most of that time was just finding the forums), because I’m aware that they have article quotas and shit. But it was just the pretentious way he came off as automatically knowing better.
I did send him a polite email tip saying I found the car, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I won’t hear back.

I usually can just ignore this type of stuff but he really gets me worked up with how shit some of his takes are and how he just stubbornly has full confidence with zero thought out response or actual discussion.
It’s either agree and be a yes man and he comments or you critique it slightly and he just slams whoever it is as dumb, selfish, a jerk, etc.
Hardigree, ballaban, etc used to respond not with name calling but with actual discourse and I loved it! As a high schooler it was my favorite site to visit. Now we have this guy who claims cars shouldn’t be allowed to be sold that can go past 100mph. How does that fit the ethos of drive free or die?

In all honesty, though, Bradley can be a bitch about stuff pretty often. Like the car’s been beaten on, no shit collectors will figure that out and not pay up for it. Besides, drifters often keep their cars, as the original commentor who “started” the argument (Yes... I drive a 240... sort of (great name btw)) mentioned. The Yes I Drive a 240 guy also often posts photos of ultra exotics and says he lives and works in an uber rich area, so I’m trusting him more than a mediocre journalist.

Tbh, I figured you didn’t check your email because of how difficult it was to find (relatively, compared to other emails which are listed in the author box). Plus ur DMs on Twitter are closed. It comes off as u don’t want tips or info.
As far as everything else, my issue is that you spent more time arguing your claim, then you did actually researching your claim.
You’re right, if it was a real GT2 it would have been restored. But you didn’t even know if it was a real GT2. You (as-well as everyone else In the comment thread) jumped the gun in assuming what it was and wasn’t.
And I’m an asshole for automatically assuming the worse of you. And for that I’m sorry for that, it’s not fair.
As I said, I really wasn’t expecting you to track down the car like I did. I spent several hours tracking it down, because I have nothing better going on. But to double down on a claim you had no backing on is what I take issue with.
Ultimately, you can do with the info I sent you as you please. If you don’t want to run it because I’m an asshole, I get it.
