Yeah, that seems to be the way everyone’s going t o get clicks these days.

Checkin g at his uploads looks like he just recently started doing that. Older ones are normal.

A couple of years ago some marketing algorithm determined people were more likely to click on a video with a person in the thumbnail and of course that study got reposted thousands of times on every social media marketing website and now we’ve snowballed to nearly every single YouTube video having a omg face in thumbnail.

Agreed. If it has the stupid “OMG face” of the presenter, or the stupid “clickbait statement/question with arrow pointing to obvious object the video is about”, I won’t watch it, regardless if I used to watch the presenter’s videos in the past.

It’s the most irritating thing  I’ve encountered for clicks yet. If these people have to cater to idiotic trends and tactics for clicks, I can’t take them seriously.

Videos like these demonstrate everything that’s wrong with modern gearheads: a bunch of miserable assholes who hate change bitching about great things. Most of the things on his list are actually great, including:

F ake exhausts/big grilles/fake vents : W hy wouldn’t I want my car to look as good as it can? Who cares if the bodywork is functional? Bold>Boring

Fake noise : Who wants a car to sound authentically shitty when it could sound good? Wtf ?!?

I lluminated grilles: Everyone laughed at the illuminated Mercedes logos, and then they all unanimously realized it’s a really cool gimmick and they actually love it.  

T oo many gears/too many drive modes : This is a programming problem, not a “too many gears” problem. Choose the correct drive mode...or use the damn paddles...and you’ll never notice an abundance of gears.

S tarter buttons: Huh??? Who TF doesn’t like starter buttons? As opposed to what? Having to fish a pair of keys out of your pocket and blindly stuff it into an ignition tunnel ? Fuck that. Give me a wireless fob with push-button start.

2) none of the fake noises I’ve heard sound good. They sound like iron dukes being smothered by pillows

Too many gears and drive modes is one of the main things I end up disliking about modern cars. I think a lot of it does come down to programming.  So frustrating knowing it could be better with a manual, I think that's what it really is, just knowing how much better it could be.

If you don’t like big grilles or vents, fine, but you’re in the minority. T he majority of enthusiasts, especially young Millennial and GenZ prefer the post-Bangle BMW’s to the pre-Bangle designs.

Personally, I look at cars like the E39 M5 and wonder how people ever admired such bland and uninspiring designs like that. Give me an i8 over any pre-Bangle blandmobile any day.

But fake exhausts? Audi’s trapezoidal exhausts look objectively better than some dorky old-school circles. They fit Audi’s angular  design aesthetic better and make it look more aggressive. Why wouldn’t you want that???
