I built a bench.
It’s very solid.
Also buit another sawhorse.
Going to build 2 end tables half the length of the bench these are firepit furniture.

OOO nice! Please post pics of the finished product! I’m looking for inspiration for our fire pit area. Also I finally broke out the collabsi ble saw horses I got for Christmas... Life changing!

Oh man are they sturdy? Those look awesome!

so how long until you have a few beers at the fire pit, run out of fire wood and the extra pile is wayyyyyyyy over there, so you just toss the bench in?

I’m pretty sure those’ll burn if you put them in a firepit.

I don’t think that’s going to happen. The sheer weight of the bench will help with that. Plus it’ll probably have beers and stuff on it.

And t hen you can breathe in the pressure treated goodness. Win-win.

The base of that bench looks a bit narrow. May want to do a tip test and see how easy it is to tip over while sitting on it.

Nice! I need to build something exactly like that... for the same purpose. Right now my firepit furniture is basically stumps with boards across them.

I have a set of those instant-sawhorse clamps. I was trying to be practical and keep them collapsible by not screwing them together. That worked great until I tried to pick one up. :)
Now I have four plastic ones that collapse and have a slot on top for a sacrificial 2x4.

Those look very sturdy. Do they have holes on top for attaching a sacrificial 2x4?

This is re placing just that. A board screwed into two logs. The logs are no longer structurally sound.

I was concerned about it myself but I slapped on those runners on the bottom and it’s super solid.

I dig this. I need this. But, I also need job security. That first. Then build things! Great job!

I ordered a bunch of wood up to keep myself busy.

Not quite on par with your hammer handle. Still quite nice though.
After years of woodworking. F ound I liked building firepits and the bouts of working in a woods a little more these days.

They are, and they do! My workshop is tiny, so I thrive on tools like these. My only complaint is clamping. I have to have a couple pieces of 2x4 nearby to throw on the underside when using a clamp as they are just deep enough that most of my clamps hit the edge before the bottom.
Most of the time I’m just throwing up a mobile workbench somewhere in the back yard. So I’m just strapping longer 2x4s onto the sacrificial 2x4s mounted to the horses.

They are very sturdy, my only complaint is that I need to throw a piece of 2x4 between the bottom of the saw horse and any clamp I am using.

The old white birch handle was much nicer. I probable have a picture of that also. Let me dig it up.

Here I thought it was just a one time neat project to hang on a wall next to the skillet clock.

Glad you already got that covered. Nicely done.

Nah that’s the third handle I put on there. I destroyed the first one with the snowblower.

It was pretty tippy at first.

My little workshop/storage building is proving to be a really small space to work in. I have a couple of dollies that are supporting my table saw so I can move it around as needed. I have a feeling all of my bigger tools are going to need wheels.
My wife has big renovation plans for the house, so we discussed setting up an outdoor covered space for dealing with big materials and clearing out part of the garage for working on smaller stuff. This summer is going to be interesting!

Hammering on it or sending the hammer through it?

Ran over it. Shot the head of it out into the snow. I didn’t find it until the snow all thawed. That solved the mystery of where my hammer had gone.

This is the type of story I get nothing but incredulity over when it happens, a fair amount, to me . Have no doubt any of these elements played out as described and the hammer got rehandled.

The logs we have, I can barely move myself. I think they’ll far outlast any wood I put on them.
