Rumour has it the RCMP Cadet band was told not to play this during inspections as the Sergeant Major and Commanding Officer didn’t like the association between them and a movie villain.

I had to look up the RCMP - now that I know, that’s funny!

I wonder how many other military/paramilitary/police organizations have a similar ban.

To reestablish the empire? Of course!

Wow. They play the hell out of that. Such precision and clarity and exact intonation and ensemble. Made my day, that. Thanks for sharing.

I think every agency of a certain size has a band of some variety, how many of them are cadet bands... probably very few.

Seriously though, Otto von Habsburg probably would have been a decent leader, the guy’s biography is fascinating.

It was one of the best performances of the march that I’ve heard. Since I haven’t heard the whole thing played through in quite some time, I’d forgotten all the variations on the theme.

We are working our way through all the movies in preparation for today’s release of Rise of Skywalker on D+. We still have to watch Last Jedi tonight. Anyway, I was wondering about the Star Wars leitmotifs , and I found this ridiculously in-depth treatise about them, complete with recording links.

I have to admit that I didn’t know what a leitmotif was. I’ve learned yet another new thing today! I’m looking forward to digging into the document a little deeper.

A performance worthy of the maestro himself!

Cool! The German opera composer Richard Wagner is probably the most famous user of leitmotifs. Star Wars is chock full of them. And once you learn to recognize them, you’ll hear them in some form throughout the films, usually when a certain character is on the screen or being mentioned.

My wife and I were talking about the repetition through the films , I  just didn’t know there was a word for it. Now I want my own leitmotif. Maybe I can find a good one and play it on my phone every time I enter a room.
