Yes, I had everything delivered. Still had to go to the store to buy one board because that’s how things work. Plus needed cement.
The old side steps. I was originally just going to build a copy, but dad said why not just build it as big as the slab? I like his thinking :P
Im guessing this rotten crap was made in the 90's. Previous owners of my home thought paint covers rotten wood.
In a few hours we had the old deck “apart” and cleaned up the area.
That’s about 3 days of work.
A day of getting the railings set up and cutting the posts to size.
I wish I didn’t apply thompsons water seal clear. It’s not going to protect the deck from turning grey :\
Having the steps go out to the driveway is perfect for unloading groceries.
Yesterday I built a bench out of 2x4s! I used some free plans online.
Haven’t decided to stain it or use teak oil.
View across the street. Still need to finish demolishing the old deck/steps

Nicely done, but I was expecting it to be built out of Lego.
Wanna come build a deck for me?

Good use of your time. I did laugh at how closely the mat resembles a manhole cover you half buried during construction.

Great work! You’re making me feel lazy for taking a break to watch Westworld.

Out of LEGO, sure. Has to be in minifigure scale :P

Impressive! I like the addition of the bench. It’s a good place to take off muddy shoes before entering the house. Also, if you leave the garbage bin there open, you can just sit and drink your been and then chuck the can into it when you’re done. Make sure to keep a cooler next to the bench for maximum loungitude.

I had the exact same thought. I was going to ask, “What will you do when you have to get into that manhole cover?” Then I noticed it was a mat.

Did you ever finish your shed?

It’s dried-in, so I can use it. It took nearly a month to get the siding manufacturer to respond so we could identify the correct color code to match the house. It turns out that the only local dealer now is Home Depot and they won’t let us order it online. I have to go to the store and visit with someone at the Pro Desk to make the order. We’ve been a bit reluctant to do that, so I’ve switched to other projects in the meantime. When my wife finally gives the ok to visit the store, I’ll order insulation and siding at the same time. That should keep me busy for a couple of weekends.
I still need to enclose the bottom, purchase and install a window on the south wall , make some clerestory windows for the east wall, and figure out how my wife wants the doors finished. Plenty of work, plenty of time.

Geez, way to one up me. I knocked out this killer bike stand out of some scrap 2x4s...they were scrap from a 2x4 bench that I recently took apart!

The concrete driveway be perfect for burnouts.

I have just enough 2x4 to make that... if I had a bike. Way to one up me there :P

nice work, I've been planning a 400sq ft deck for a while now and I'm super eager to get building

I made a big one of those for 7 bikes once. But when I got to my new garage I decided to hang my bikes instead. Put up couple 2x4s in an L shape for extra strength and used hooks to hand the front tires.

I normally hang the bikes when I’m not riding them a lot. I’ve just got the simple ceiling hooks for them. I don’t love that hanging method, but it works during the winter months.

Thats big! mines only 66 sq ft lol.
It was fun building once we got the frame up.

I’m replacing a 140 sq ft deck. It started out as deciding to replace the decking, then an expansion, then a complete teardown and rebuild the way we wanted it. I have a building permit application in now
