Not to be outdone, the Louisiana Air National Guard will have their own flyover today.
“Officials with the Air Force say the flyover will include two B-52 Stratofortresses assigned to the 2nd Bomb Wing and F-15 Strike Eagles from the 159th Fighter Wing based at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans.”
This route, if exact, takes them right over my house. I’m prepping our “real” camera in hopes of catching the perfect photo.
[UPDATE] Photos Taken!
Bonus pic of a private pilot with the right idea. I first spotted him flying north toward Baton Rouge , five minutes later he was flying south. He may have been turned back by BTR air traffic control.

That’s cool! In a way, it might be more interesting to see these home grown shows than the fancy ones.

We had 4 f35A in our flyover.
Rough math says our 3 hour 4 jet flyover cost half a mil

That’s awesome!

I’m hoping they fly nice and low so we can get some decent photos. I miss being able to see large military aircraft flying low. We used to watch them at Tinker AFB.

If you want to get in on the fun, one of the local stations recorded the flyover of New Orleans and will broadcast the flyover of Baton Rouge here: https://www.facebook.com/TeamBarksdale

This is, in my humble, non dick-swinging opinion, real dumb.

Would have been spent keeping the pilots current on their rating anyway, but this way people got to enjoy it.

Having lived my whole life in cities with large AFBs nearby , the only flyiver that wowed me was the B2 during the 2001 WS. My house was under its holding pattern and my brother and I just sat in our lawn watching it circle. Looked like an alien spacecraft.
Luke AFB is sending F35s around Phoenix today and will go right over my house. I was in west Phoenix on a field trip this year and they were buzzing the freeway.

BUFFs ! My brother in law use to be stationed at Barksdale, and he worked on missile systems. I asked him once, “I know that there are B-52s at Barksdale, and that B-52s can carry nukes. Are there nukes at your base?” A laconic man even on a good day, he half smiled and said, “I can neither confirm or deny that.”

Keep your eye on the Twitters for each team. It still might happen.

Pilots need to keep up with their flight time anyway, might as well plan the flights to entertain the kids (and adult kids) trapped at home.

We lived within an hour of Tinker AFB. We sometimes went over to Midwest City and I would have the opportunity to watch B-52s, AWACS, and the occasional B-1. The most exciting exercise I had a chance to see was a C-130 doing a short-field take-off and landing. It was the one and only time I saw both a JATO take-off and parachute-assist landing.
The last time I was there I had a chance to see some classic hardware in the sky, including one highly-polished P-51. I wish I could find those photos.

We always knew that we lived fairly close to a likely target since Tinker housed B-1s, B-52s, and AWACS.

I grew up in Norfolk, VA, home of the world’s largest naval base, not to mention NAS Oceana, Little Creek Amphibious Base, and Langley AFB was across the Bay. We always knew we were in the top 5 of the Soviet’s hit list.

Wow! low flying B52 is always amazing. Too bad they didn’t fly further south where I could see.

Just found out the flyover is going right over me. I’ll be hiking to the highest peak in my hood to watch it and stream it. My wife is a photographer and has professional gear, but I think it would be cool to get a shot with my vintage cameras. I’m pretty excited now.

Awesome! I would g ues stimate they were at 1,500 feet AGL when they flew over us. I wonder how high they will be over you if you’re on the highest hill. I can’t wait to see the pictures!

I’ll be about 1,500-2000 ft above the valley, so it should be interesting. The published route has it going right over the mountains, so I’m thin king they’ll be flying in between the peaks. The published route has them going right over the hills. I can see pretty much the entire valley from this spot on a clear day. We haven’t had rain for a while and our air quality is just now starting to dip, but we’re still at an index in the 60s, so I should be able to view a good portion of the route.

I’m JEALOUS! The only better option would be to be in the air with them.
