The spot I was stuck in this afternoon when my scooter shat the bed, is right under one of the approach paths into O’Hare airport. I saw no less than three cargo 747s while I was there.

Ttyymmnn would have taken that bullet for you.

Nice to see ol’ Connie has some decent, newer -400s. I know they’ve had them for some time now, but back in my days on the ramp a decade ago all I saw were a bunch of ragged-out -100s and -200s, two of which they lost in quick succession in 2008.
Oops.

I know he would have! He was the first one I thought of, when I saw the first one.

On the bright side, nobody was killed in that series of accidents, just the write-off of a couple of aircraft. I believe that there was another incident around the same time where a pilot was suffering from hypoxia, but he was able to get down to a reasonable altitude before something awful happened.

I’ve got a bunch of aircraft going over my place all the time, big, small and otherwise. Someone at work got me onto this.
I never really cared what I was hearing or seeing. I didn’t know I needed this but I do

Nice! Most of what is in the air these days is cargo, even combis (cargo and passengers in the same hold) are flying. Anything to keep the planes in the air.

I am still surprised by how loud and rumbly 747s are - caught this coming into SeaTac last November....

Our workshop is in Jefferson park just off Lawrence and Cicero so there’s plenty of air traffic there — Agreed, amazing how often you do still see the odd 747

That’s just their quick-egress cargo system.

We looked at buying a house about a mile directly west of here. It was a gorgeous old farm house, with a nice big yard, and a HUGE garage. Then one of these cargo 747s rumbled past directly over the house and not much higher than when I took this picture. We noped right out of there. I still will occasionally drive past that hoise, and stare lustfully at that beautiful garage.

Beau Bridges as Connie Kalitta - one of my favorites.
