To honor the frontline healthcare workers, first responders, and law enforcement personnel in the US for their role in the CIVOD-19 pandemic, the US Navy Blue Angels and US Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration teams will team up to fly routes over NYC/Newark and Philadelphia/Trenton today .

“We’re excited to fly over cities across America as our way of saying thanks to the healthcare workers, first responders, and all the people who selflessly run into the breach working to keep America strong,” !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Gen. Dave Goldfein, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, and Adm. Michael Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations. “This is also our way of showing that we are all in this together and that America’s spirit will prevail.”

While no official schedule has been released, the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , citing a DOD memo obtained by the paper, reported:

The memo said the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds will fly jointly over Washington, Baltimore, New York, Newark, Trenton, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and Austin. It was not clear whether that list could change, but defense officials said it is not comprehensive.

The Blue Angels . . . will fly their blue-and-gold F/A-18 Hornets separately over at least 13 other cities, including Miami, Tampa, Tallahassee and Jacksonville in Florida and Norfolk and Virginia Beach in Virginia. Other Blue Angels destinations include Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, Nashville, New Orleans, and Kingsville and Corpus Christi in Texas.

The Thunderbirds, meanwhile, plan to fly their red-white-and-blue F-16 Fighting Falcons over San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Ore., and Seattle, the memo said.

A Blue Angels’ public affairs told the USA TODAY Network that the full schedule won’t be released at once.

Announcements about specific cities will be released 48 hours ahead of the flyover, and the information will be shared on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ’ and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ’ Twitter accounts.

Isn’t their entire schtick an affront to social distancing? Don’t they brag about being 3 feet apart?

Cool, though.

The shots from today should be pretty epic. Unfortunately, they’re not doing any combined aerobatics.

Check your local news. I haven’t been able to find a full schedule, which is odd since they are starting today. But the DOD press release did say they are working with local news outlets to spread the word.

Keep an eye on your local news. That list was not comprehensive or final.

Oh boy a flyover of Newark and Trenton. Hope they don’t fly too low there, might receive more hostile small arms fire than over places like Afghanistan!

Good tip - apparently KC gets a flyover of a few B2, A-10 and t-38's out of Whitman today.

I’ve definitely been lucky living in St Louis with a big Boeing facility and Scott AFB nearby I have randomly seen a bunch of military aircraft over the years. The B2's are also based in Missouri and while they’re a much rarer sight I have seen them a couple times.

Sadly though I’m slow with a camera and even worse organizing my photos so I haven none to share.

I know they are not going to be super popular out here due to political reasons/timing   but I’m really looking forward to getting the Thunderbirds. I’ve never seen them live.  Even if other folks don’t want them, they can just do circles over my place for a half hour.

I’m more of a Blue Angels fan, but I’ll take whatever I can get. If we don’t get the double, we’ll likely get the Thunderbirds, starting in San Antonio and flying north up I-35 and into OK. SA is a big USAF town, with a large basic training facility and a couple of large air bases.

The y both performed at all t he DC air show last summer. It was the first time in a long while they did the same s how. Blew my mind. Thunderbirds were more exciting, blue angels more impressive.

Afterburner climb or GTFO.

I guess I missed it, but I was too far north of Stamford CT to see it anyway.

I’m more of a T-birds fan, myself.  But I’m sure either is a great show.

Isn’t Trump wonderful? If it weren’t for Trump we wouldn’t have the Blue Thunders. He brought them back after Obama stopped them. But now we’ll have a Space Shuttle Team because we have a Space Force.
