Grass fed tri tip from a local farmer I know.

The endless squirrel hunt continues. He has been at it for hours and is finally showing signs of slowing down. This is what he looks like when he gets exhausted. When he’s fresh, it is crazy.

I cooked some inexpensive steaks and chicken legs on the grill. Steaks were a bit over done, as some friends came over unexpected for a quick visit. Still came out pretty good. Chicken is for later this week.

Nothing that good, but I did grill up some tri-trip strips that were marinated in Yoshida sauce. Pretty tasty and very easy.

I was going to make Fideo Alfredo, but I decided to go with an automotive theme since I had a open package of pasta in the shape of gears. A little bacon and some parmesan/red pepper mix sprinkled on top finished it off.

Last year I discovered Fideo as a markdown box of Barilla, but haven’t able to find it since (at least not in that brand) . But one branch of a local grocery chain has it in these nice little bags from Mexico for 49 cents and I’ll go a little out of my way to grab it, usually on Fridays when they sell trays of sushi for $5 . It’s like spaghetti, but broken into smaller pieces and that makes it much neater to eat than most stringy pasta.

We've been getting takeout once a week, to support our favorite local restaurants. Today I had a bacon cheddar burger, with fresh cut fries.

I made steak fried rice with onions and a red and green pepper. Cooked up the steak in ginger, curry powder, soy sauce, rice vinegar, a nd garlic. Did up the veggies in oil and cilantro. Then fried the rice up with egg, so y sauce, vinegar and ginger.

The dishes typically made with them range from soup to nearly dry. It’s very similar to vermicelli.

Everyone has their own recipes, but most include a chicken and/or tomato base. In most grocery stores with a Hispanic foods aisle, you’ll find Knorr caldo de pollo, caldo de tomate, and El Pato, all of which are frequently used in these soups/noodle dishes where I’m from.

Tomorrow we have something special on the menu:

This is 6 thighs in my somewhat famous pollo asado marinade. Our nanny described it ( by text) as “the best chicken I have tasted in my life!! ” and even asked me for the recipe so she could make it for her family when she was i n Mexico. She thinks  I should open a restaurant just to sell this chicken...
