Huge tragedy amidst the terrible pandemic we’re all already facing :(

This type of thing is VERY rare here...so a huge shock to all of us.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Active shooter on the run since last night around 11pm, caught this morning...

One RCMP officer dead, more than 10 17 people killed (including the shooter) over at least 100km....one other officer injured and in hospital. An elementary school teacher is also among the dead, which hits home to me as a substitute teacher...

Not many details as it is still under investigation over ‘many’ crime scenes, many of which haven’t even been cleared yet for possible victims as several of those sites were burned through arson by the suspect...

Suspect was shot and killed by police at a gas station 40km from Halifax, which is Nova Scotia’s provincial capital and by far the most populated area in the province - suspect was a 51 year old denturist that had a practice in Dartmouth (the ‘twin’ city of Halifax right across the harbour from it).

Apparently he had a fake RCMP uniform and was at one point driving a fake RCMP Ford Taurus cruiser which was actually a legitimate EX-police cruiser that he had somehow had re-liveried back up to look exactly like a real police car, the key difference being he had a made up vehicle ID number on it that didn’t follow RCMP protocol. Some of his denture customers apparently have told the news he had actually bought two ex-cruisers and had them parked out back of the denture clinic for awhile. One of the customers even said he was going to ask the suspect what he was going to do with/ what he needed two ex-cruisers for...

That is awful. It always comes as a shock when it hits so close to home. So glad that they took him down already, but my heart goes out to the families of the 10+ people killed. You never expect it to happen so close.

In an ex-RCMP car, no less - apparently he had bought two ex-cruisers a few years ago, it’s now come out ...definitely pre-meditated :(

Terrible.....I feel for the families of all those who lost loved ones. The RCMP officer that was killed, Heidi Stevenson, leaves behind her two kids and her husband. Was a veteran of the force for 23 years, so sad...

They’re keeping all the details very close to chest...it was a swath of nearly or possibly over 100km, so they don’t even know for sure how many people were killed...it could be far more yet :(

We’re all hurting for Heidi and the families affected. We’ll make sure they’re taken care of.

My coworker just came over and we had a long talk about it. He’s from Nova Scotia and his buddy lives right by the gas station where they got him. He’s definitely shaken up.

She will never be forgotten.

Pure speculation but it sounds like it may be a case of city slicker goes to community of 100, buys multiple properties, does something to piss off one of the locals, and it escalates from there. Back and forth, back and forth...

This would explain the details being “ close to the chest” . Who wants to be the first to say they had something to do with pus hing him over the edge, or point a finger at a fellow community member ?

My thoughts exactly man... not sure I’ll be able to sleep tonight. Nobody I personally know was involved in any way, but I know people up there and aside from the cop, apparently one of the victims was an Elementary teacher as well, which hits home to me with me being a substitute teacher...

Apparently an elementary teacher is confirmed among the dead now too (which hits home with me as a substitute teacher trying to find his way into the system) and there are many crime scenes that haven’t even been cleared yet and at least three of them were torched by him with arson after the fact so I am scared the number of casualties may yet go up still...

So weird, I got gently rear ended by a guy in 1997 in my Celebrity in Downtown Dartmouth (oddly enough - he was driving an Accent). The car was old and pretty dead (I though I the transmission had just grenaded until I looked in the rear view mirror), so we squared up for $200 to cover a used bumper from Kinsmen’s & my time & trouble. I picked up the check at the same place this dude had his denture clinic. Definitely wasn’t a denture clinic at that point, but he had just taken the space, so who knows, and I moved to Ontario the next year. I remember the guy having a weird name, but he was pretty jovial, and honestly if I was to get rear ended by someone it would have been that guy. Hopefully it wasn’t the guy, but if it was, just goes to show I guess.

Think the scary part is it was both pre-meditated AND random. Pre-meditated that he went the effort to get the cop cars and make it look the part, and then go on a random rampage.

You already got what you wanted by killing your ex-wife and her new partner, which is bad enough...why drag completely unrelated innocents into it...?

I figure they are OK, I don’t think any of the rampage happened right in Truro, he seems to have passed it by on the 102 on the way towards Halifax. The RCMP caught/killed him in Enfield.

Yeah it’s seeming more likely it was him, he told me he had just moved to town from New Brunswick. But seriously, literally the last person you would have expected (I mean the guy missed his calling as a comic, and was a pretty savvy businessman ).

I guess it goes to show what serious mental illness can do to a person. I wouldn’t be surprised if they find something like a brain tumor or other medical cause as well. These horrific acts don’t line up with my experience, or that of many others apparently.

Yeah, a lot of people were saying he was a really nice and helpful guy...there was even an interview with him on TV a few years ago where he was giving free denture work to a cancer survivor who couldn’t afford it...
