Land O Lakes butter has used a Native American woman, nicknamed Mia, to sell butter for almost 100 years. Now, the company has announced that it will replace Mia with images of the dairy suppliers who help make the butter.
And perhaps saddest of all, you won’t be able to fold the box any more.

As someone who lives 15 minutes from their headquarters, I say good job. Th e real question is, who cares? Are people getting upset about this? It’s not “ Land O Pretty Indian Girl” butter...........

It’s been gone for a while. I don’t know why it’s suddenly a news story.

Oof, I hadn’t thought about that angle. Removing the offensive/stereotypical depiction of a Native American was good, but, yeah, replacing it with pictures of white people creates some unwelcome parallels to American history.
Maybe they could have done pictures of important Native American community leaders/cultural figures, or just no pictures at all.

I think we had those cutter when I was a kid.

there will be people who will whine that this is “political correctness run amok” even though it sounds like this company did this of their own volition. Which these “anti-PC” morons should be all for, a private corporation doing something which might help them increase sales. But those whiny overgrown babies will cry about anything that gives them the sads.

What is this crap ? The box counts as one of the pieces? I am outraged, OUTRAGED I TELL YOU!

Arguably that'd still be cultural appropriation. Given the issues, and that the name is "land o lakes" pictures of scenic natural beauty of Wisconsin sounds better..

She’s been missing on the past few tubs of spreadable butter in my house, and she’s been missing from the butter boxes at the store, too.

We don’t buy LOL butter, so I guess I just haven’t noticed. We get the store brand.

The best answer is to remove the whites from the box, then remove the whites from Minnesota .

Well, not if it was real photographs of currently living people, used with their permission. But, generally, I don't like cluttered logos or package designs, or inconsistency, so one standardized lake scene would be better anyway

You ever go for LOL american cheese? Nothing touches it IMHO

Now that coronavirus stuff seems to be calming down compared to the past few weeks, that’s probably why they’re spending time talking about butter branding now haha.

Why don’t more corporations get this? Either give me vintage packaging or a scenic nature view, I don’t need a god damn person on my butter, no matter who they are. Unless it’s Marcellus Gilmore Edson on my peanut butter

Nope, we get the store brand of that, too. We don’t eat much American cheese.

And now this :
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
President Trump on Friday began openly fomenting right-wing protests of social distancing restrictions in states where groups of his conservative supporters have been violating stay-at-home orders, less than a day after announcing guidelines for how governors could decide on an orderly reopening of their communities.
In a series of all-caps tweets, Mr. Trump declared “ LIBERATE MICHIGAN !” and “ LIBERATE MINNESOTA !” — two states whose Democratic governors have imposed social distancing restrictions that have shut down businesses and schools and forced people to remain at home. He also tweeted “LIBERATE VIRGINIA, and save your great 2nd Amendment. It is under siege!”
