I love when your work computer gives you 15min of notice that it’s going to restart for updates

The future is now!
Can’t wait to be a cyborg.
“What you doin? You cant just sit down on a curb and block traffic!”
“I’m installing updates! I got no choice! I can’t see till it’s done!! ”

I still don’t get these update warnings. At least let me delay it for an hour or two. Nope, this update is not optional and you only get 15 minutes of warning. SMDH

Happened to all of my users when we started managing the machines via InTune instead of Group Policy. It took me a while to feel it all out. I had to create custom profiles to get it to work so that users would have more warning and the option to postpone.

To be fair from the other side the tools used for patching in an enterprise aren’t designed to be nice for the end users. They’re designed to patch your shit. Also if you let a user delay or not apply a patch 9/10 times they’ll do that so sometimes you just got to patch!

I disabled updates on my desktop. It’s 9 yrs old, I built it 2011, running win10 build something or other, and for the last few months every time it would try to update, it’d get 80% done, then a grey win3.11 warning window would pop up and say that something was incompatible with the update. Wouldn’t tell me what. Then it would revert, and I’d have to reset all my photoshop presets yet again. It was pissing me off somethin fierce.
So I went in to the registry and disabled updates. Fuck that noise.

Seriously this happens when:
1. I turn on my computer for a meeting
2. I am late leaving the office and need to take my computer home
It’s like fucking clock work, like some mofo is just waiting to fuck with me.

Very true - that should definitely happen.

My company put a TPM in my workstation and encrypted it before I brought it home which makes perfect sense. The problem is that Windows is exceptionally unhappy with that change and is now insanely slow and randomly crashes all the way back to the boot splash screen. I gave up trying to use it for actual work after a couple days and switched to working on my personal desktop and have been using it as a glorified serial monitor for debug logging since my personal machine doesn’t have a serial port.
