Apparently the mini is no match for California

Got the fuel pressure problem,”fixed” after listening to everyone’s input, it looks to have been a problem with the vanos solenoid. Went and looked through everything multiple times, eventually pulling the solenoid and cleaning it based on a random commenters advice, haven’t had a problem since.(I’ve got a long winded theory on why this caused the problem)

Kinja'd!!!

It still has a problem with misfiring on high load and fouling the spark plugs if you don’t let out.

It blows me away that a vehicle this new can be so hard to diagnose. Congrats on the progress!

You know what, how about something as silly as a bad ground?  If you’re having issues with misfires still, but now you have fuel, maybe the ignition isn’t giving a good spark.  And if memory serves, you’ve replaced all the usual suspects already.  So wondering if the ground isn’t as good as it needs to be, or low battery voltage as well.  I know electrical grounds can cause all sorts of problems if they aren’t making good contact.

Continuity between the battery ground and head was decent but its a distinct possibility, something simple. I'll re clean everything when the new plugs and coils show up.   Along that same vein the poor spark could be from the antisieze still on the threads within the head

This is absolutely worth checking.  My wife’s Beetle had a misfire that was giving me fits. Turned out that the ground for the ECU was very lightly corroded. I cleaned it up and the thing ran beautifully.

Oh, I thought you had already done the plugs and coils.  Hopefully that will sort it, but it sure doesn’t hurt to clean up the grounds.  And possibly put the battery on a charger to make sure it’s topped up.

Was backing out of the garage today in my beautiful orange R56S when I heard a loud clunk followed by rubbing sounds. I slowly limped it back into the garage and jacked it up to find…

Kinja'd!!!

Front left spring snapped. I fished the strut assembly out and will take it to my guy tomorrow. Also ordered a new end link.  Pretty easy actually.

Damn, glad it wasn’t while you were driving at any speed.

Seems like kinda an odd failure

I KNOW RIGHT?? I routinely drive in excess of 85 MPH in that car (which doesn’t even seem fast around here in Chicago)

I drove it yesterday and it was FINE! It started making rubbing noises the second I started reversing out of the garage today. VERY ODD!!

I actually had the exact same thing happen on my 93 Civic many years ago, though it just looked low, didn’t cause any rubbing.

Maybe your lca bushings are shot and the strut flexed too much from the movement?

Not impossible as there’s about 95k on it but it has had regular maintenance checks  at the dealer and I haven’t noticed any noises - and my ears are very keen to suspension noises.
