There was a team that used to use one in the East African Safari Classic rally, but they would always take in too much dust into the engines (which are typically fragile) and they would fail.

My dad passed on a gullwing in the early 70's, it had a broken axle and he didn’t want to deal with that! I could have been able to drive a gullwing !!

In James May’s T he C ars of the P eople, May  brings out a Countach from that era and says that something about the suspension fittings makes them have to be replaced frequently. I guess you can't lubricate them or something like that.
