I which they had gone through with that, then I could lust over one as a pairing for the 17 instead of a CX (which I desperately want, but have no need for) .

I think the name was just Project H not Project H1.
But the car is an interesting one. I think it’s the first one that was planned to be powered the V8 engin e that was developed together with Peugeot . This poor engine was later shortened as the V6 PRV engine. The car was also rear wheel driven .
“The long hood hid a 3.5-liter V-8 fed by a pair of double-barrel carburetors and bolted to a four-speed manual transmission that spun the rear wheels. Peugeot and Renault both assigned their brightest engineers to the eight-cylinder’s development. While specifications were never released to the public, Project H sounded more like a Mercedes-Benz than a Renault on paper, but it would have cost considerably less. ”

Yep, sorry the H1
was left in because of the file name. If that V8 was put in something like that, and was successfu
l,
I think it could have had quite an impact on the European, or at least French automotive future. It would presumably then be stuck in Volvos, as well.

I’m still seeing a little bit of Gen I Quattroporte in those lines... Wasn’t this the period when Maserati ownership was being passed around like the clap?

I like how it looks. The proto type was built in ‘ 67 or ‘68. It would have look quite modern in those days.
It did have weird looking hubcaps too but they seem to have gone missing.
While I was searching for more pictures I did
found this.
Apparently a long wheelbase
sedan
also existed. The interior looks pretty
empty so it doesn’t seem to be
a working proto
type. The bumpers
have similar styling with the fastback
but they are not identical.

OK, I am liking that a lot...especially the rear end styling and the way the bumper melds into the tails/turn signals...very pretty!
