Someone was selling a wood car (I think a modded Crosley) on Craigslist last year. Disappointed I didn’t post about it, can’t find any photos now.

If you visit the Abraham Lincoln birthplace in KY, you will find this giant Roman temple-like structure that was built on a hilltop to house the log cabin where Lincoln was reportedly born. Trouble is, it’s not even remotely a true historical artifact. Some guy in the 20s decided to try to find the actual cabin, and when he couldn’t, he found (or constructed) another and towed it around the country claiming it was the real deal. When the monument to Lincoln’s birth was erected, they just put that sham cabin inside. We visited it a few years ago, and while the Ranger inside will confess to the true story of the ersatz cabin, I don’t think they really make a strong attempt at letting you know in the first place. You kind of have to ask.

Well, this is the state with the Ark and Creation Museum, so that seems par for the course.

The camp I worked at in college used to own the Lincoln’s cabin replica from the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, some of my mom’s friends from high school broke in to have a party and ended up burning it down in the ‘70s, so by the time I worked there, it was just the chimney and foundation.

Besides, Pip Bip has an unfair advantage living in the antipodes.

Still, gorgeous monument though. Who doesn’t like a well executed Grecian temple?
