Desperation and boredom breeds ingenuity. So I figured out how to install and torque the flywheel by myself! Turns out it was pure genius.
After degreasing and applying red threadlocker to the flywheel bolts, fitting the flywheel to the crank itself was easy enough. I did have to take it off and redo it to make sure the flywheel/crankshaft/crank-sprocket timing marks were all lined up; lest I wanna have messed up timing marks because of a hasty installation.
Then, I threaded a pressure plate bolt into the flywheel, and wedged the top half of my floor jack “cheater bar” between it, the bottom of the car, and exhaust manifold, and cranked the bolts to 74ft-lbs. It held, and each bolt had a once-over for my sanity.
Next Wednesday, the clutch, pressure plate, and hopefully the bellhousing and torque tube will go back in place!

Nice work! The handle from my floor jack frequently doubles as a cheater bar, too. :)

Nicely done!
I managed to crack my old jack handle using the handle as a cheater bar :)

One day I’ll get a “real” breaker bar, but this just works.

I can’t imagine it was easy to crack that handle.

I have an 18" 1/2" drive breaker. On the ancient stuff I work on, sometimes that just isn’t enough. :)

It was at the end where it had a hole drilled in to be bolted to the other half. Slip right there.

Nice progress, and very clever with the jack handle flywheel stop

New flywheel, or didja have the old one turned? The finish kinda looks like it was machined.

I put a long ratchet on one of the pulley bolts on the front of the engine and wedged it against the ground to keep my flywheel from moving when replacing the clutch on the Jeep.

Had this one turned. A brand new OEM flywheel is past impossible to find and if one is found, it’s too much money. I had the original turned and a new pilot bearing installed.

It’s a great DIY lifehack.

No teeth on the f-wheel? How does the starter engage?

The starter ring is a separate part that goes in bolted to the pressure plate.
