The governor’s office gave a more clear interpretation of essential and non-essential to our legal team at our request. As of 9:03 tonight, we are non-essential and we’ve all been laid off. Allegedly we will be rehired when this blows over, but I’m not holding my breath.

I haven't been unemployed since I was 17. Good thing I have beer.

We have less than five hundred confirmed cases, and six deaths

Feds are starting to move on it; but it seems like they’re trying to keep the economy going as much as possible. The Mexican government doesn’t have the resources, or the channels, to help most vulnerable people if the economy stops, and corporations have very few legal obligations to their staff under these circumstances.

From a healthcare standpoint, we’re woefully unprepared. We have very few ICU beds, very few ventilators, and it seems like the deathrate will be higher here because we have a huge diabetes problem and it is a preexisting condition that makes COIVD more dangerous.

But things could change tomorrow; it’s developing surprisingly fast.

Ye’, some of the mental issues are already happening. Even in Spain and Italy where it’s very seriously affected them, staying in doors has got to them and some are going out (keeping their distance, etc... with gloves and masks, but still defying the law).

People being sent home, some with support, some with little and some with non. All over the TV and radio here were told, ‘were all in this together’, but already some are being left out.

My step father used to go to mental daycare, when he didn’t need it as much, he’d go half the time as a daycare patient and the other half of the time to help the staff out. As the daycare is closed with the virus going on, the staff are phoning the patients daily so the person has someone to talk to, they are also getting the patients food, etc... but they are finding it hard to get some items, which is where I come in as a shelf filler I’m given certain (but limited) privileges of having a couple of hours shopping time before the store opens to the public (but only up to £30 while the store is closed), so I can get those items for the patients before the passes descend on them.

Yeah, a lot of stores are doing that here too (limited hours before opening for the public for special considerations like seniors or support workers for those who need help). I think the local Superstore in Bridgewater opens an hour or two in the morning for that purpose before opening to the public, or so I am pretty sure I heard on the radio the other day.

That’s awful. Christ, here there’s loads of bloody things, half of them are rushed off their feet and half are only staffed by volunteers to give out advice so you may have to wait, even if you get one . Between the common man and the courts are ombudsmen, Citizens Advice Bureaus, assistance groups, small claims courts, Trading Standards, unions, etc...

Of course it doesn’t guarantee they will help the way you want them to but you can always get your own or a lawyer to take it up for you.

Like most of Europe, etc...

In the same boat. Was furloughed Tuesday and had to look to find out its already Thursday. Applied for unemployment and my company is allowing us to use accrued vacation (2 weeks!) I have been telling myself to take some vacation time for a while to do some home improvement stuff, but ironically now that I have the time, I shouldnt be spending the money.
