I have met her in Honolulu but I’ve never seen the car they gave her. I know Mr. Shelly of the dealership died in the 90's.
Bonus San Onofre, California, 1963 parking lot. Which vehicle do you want? I’d take that woody by the VW bus.

Mazda 323...that’d be dust by now!
I'd take the VW van...

That’s a Great Little Car.
I’d like the shoebox Ford woody too (looks like a 51) , standard surfer car. Heck, it was in the logo of the 80s surf-themed clothing company Jimmy’z - I was really into that back in the day:

Did someone say Dak ine?
Literally the only other place I’ve seen that phrase outside of Hawaiian culture.

Brah I had so many pairs of those velcro pants. Sheesh, the patterns were bad.

Yep, I tried to stop saying it but I don’t care anymore.

Wait, what does Dakine actually mean? I’ve only ever seen it as the glove/backpack outerwearish company

That red Corvair looks pretty tempting.

I never had those, but man, the t-shirts (along with Op, Hobie, Gotcha, Billabong ) it was an obsession and for some reason my parents indulged me.

It means that thing, like something you can’t remember. Or you can say, you dakine, which is like you’re the best. It’s a bit of a catch all local pidgin. I always have to explain to mainlanders that it is not just a brand.

Oh yeah, we surfed as kids and had all the fluorescent stuff. Crazy Shirt is a local thing, some of those shirts are worth a lot now. I trashed it all.

I lived in an arid inland area, but somehow found the surfer lifestyle/image thing compelling starting from the time I was maybe in 3rd or 4th grade, and maybe into junior high. Kind of wish I had my old shirts too, although I loved them and no doubt wore them out.

Methinks I see a real-deal woody wagon. It was probably someone’s cheap old car. That’s a unicorn now.

Yeah I totally want a Corvair Monza while they are cheap, just no room and I would never pick it over a woodie.

I had one. It was fun. Found a local guy that owned one of each variety, with a well organized backyard full of parts he’d been collecting. Used to trade him soda (didn’t drink) for parts.

I have a Dakine backpack with many useful zippers and pockets.
