Interesting article about the stock market freefall due to Covid-19 fears.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
But the real gem is someone’s secret hatred for Italy:
Still, some analysts urged patience. “If you have faith in the health authorities of Iran and Italy and Afghanistan to control their cases of coronavirus, then by all means go bargain hunting,” said Jeffrey Halley, OANDA senior market analyst, Asia Pacific.
I’m not saying Iran and Afghanistan are necessarily the
worst
in terms of crisis management, but to lump Italy in with
them both
just seems a little harsh.

Fear selling. APPL lost even after they said they just increased their A12 chip orders in anticipation of iPhone demand.
The more the indices drop, the bigger the buying opportunity coming.

Might be time to start buying 5-10% extra dry goods on any given shopping trip.

Italy’s federal and provincial governments completely lost their shit last week, and Milan is basically shut down ...he’s not wrong to lump them in, factually. Half of the legislature is shouting about closing the borders. Although their wild overreaction might actually succeed in limiting spread of the virus, who knows.

The situation in Italy sounds like a big mess. You are right that lumping them in with Iran or the barely functioning Afghan state might be harsh, but I have little hope things will be contained.
I do plan on buying a bunch of stock this week if things keep dropping. Probably not the best market timing but I’ll be holding long enough that additional short term losses aren’t the end of the world.
And maybe losses don’t matter at all if COVID-19 kills me!

My brother- in- law is a Delta flight attendant who works Detroit-Narita flights.
He got back home recently after working two of those round trips in a row. He half-jokingly was talking about setting up a decontamination chamber in his garage.

The burn will be in two and 1/2 weeks, when they cancel the Italian Grand Prix.
Beware the Ides of March.
(A friend of mine was already notified that his travel insurance for the Olympics in Tokyo is not applicable if the games are cancelled. Epidemics and Pandemics are excluded from the policies....)
